Enemy No. 1 & Giant Enemies (Fear Not #11 & #13)

Numbers 21:34 & Deuteronomy 3:2 And the LORD said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon the king of the Amorites, which dwelt at Heshbon. (KJV) (Hint: he was wiped out!)

Hmmmm. Ok. Don’t tell me you have NEVER wished the Lord would tell you this about your enemy or an enemy of your children or grandchildren. Let me at them! Right? Moses got turned loose by God not on just the enemy but all connected to the enemy.. SCORE! Oops, did I just let something out for all to see? Sorry.

Revenge was NOT God’s agenda. Revenge makes us stupid fearless: This brings no glory to God, no honor to God, nor does it teach others about His LOVE. God’s agenda is a pure and holy people (nation), free of idols, false worship, evil. He wanted a nation of people loving their God and loving each other. Let one rotten apple remain and all go bad.

Notice, Moses had fear. This is a strong and powerful enemy OR more likely, the Israelites were adopting “ways” that appealed to them but God found offensive. Is there a more powerful enemy than this, “the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life?” (I John 2:16)

God’s reassurance: I the LORD, the God who created Heaven and Earth, created man out of dust, it is I who have delivered them to you. They (this powerful enemy) are already yours.

Don’t miss this! Read that again. And again. And again.

This verse is repeated again in Deuteronomy 3:2.. Must be really important and have more than one meaning. Scripture is like that……….layers of lessons.

This was the land of giants. The Israelites did as God commanded and wiped out these giants–men, women and children. The him the LORD said not to fear was the king of Bashan, Og. He was a giant of a man. He required a bed nine (9) cubits long and four (4) cubits wide. This is equal to fifteen feet long and six and half feet wide. That is a big dude. He was the last of the giant kings. The point: God promised to deliver the land and its giants and He was! Building confidence in their God to keep His Word.

We need constant reminders that He keeps His Word. We really are like dumb sheep. It is shocking He puts up with us. We are exasperating! Worse than children on a school yard.

Fear not the giants where God sends you. He has already defeated them. All you need do is go in and pick up the spoil. (I am holding up a mirror and preaching to self. Feel free to watch and listen, it is a free broadcast.)

Look around your “land.” Is there a giant enemy God has instructed you to destroy because it pollutes your land? Drugs, alcohol, pornography, adultery, lies, criticism, complaining, disrespect, addiction to electronics, hate, bitterness, anger, jealousy, envy, lack of forgiveness ……..If He has told you to do it, then GET ON WITH IT! Face the Giants: Attack fearlessly–the battle is His and you will be victorious . FEAR NOT! The enemy will fall. The Lord God of Heaven has declared it! The same reassurance the Lord of Heaven gave Moses, He gives to us. Read it one more time.

Did you notice that the first reading’s focus was a pure and holy people. The second focus is giant enemies. Anything standing in the way of becoming a pure and holy child of God IS a giant enemy and the LORD will do whatever it takes to bring the enemy down!

Don’t just keep treading water; start swimming and don’t stop until you reach the shore.

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!
