Sometimes even well-watered gardens have a desert experience!
Have you ever felt like you were in a spiritually dry place?
Maybe you need a fresh perspective?
Need some reminders to hold on to?
1. STAND ON THE PROMISES OF GOD IN HIS WORD.
“Here is a trustworthy statement: For if we died with Him, we shall also live with Him; If we endure, we shall also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us; If we are faithless, He remains faithful; for He cannot deny Himself. Timothy 2:11-13 (NASB)
2. KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE WHICH IS CHRIST JESUS.
“For this reason I endure all things for the sake of those who are chosen, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus and with it eternal glory.” 2 Timothy 2:10 (NASB)
3. FIND AN ANCHOR IN THE STORM.
One of my anchors: I need a strong resolve. Make up your mind to never go back. Set your face like flint.
I have done life the world’s way; it does not work! There is no peace. Pleasure is good for a season but there is always a hook and it turns ugly. Guilt. Bondage. Shame. Depression.
“For the Lord God helps Me, Therefore, I am not disgraced; Therefore, I have set My face like flint, And I know that I will not be ashamed.” Isaiah 50:7 (NASB)
“Though the fig tree should not blossom
And there be no fruit on the vines,
Though the yield of the olive should fail
And the fields produce no food,
Though the flock should be cut off from the fold
And there be no cattle in the stalls,
Yet I will exult in the Lord,
I will rejoice in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength,
And He has made my feet like hinds’ feet,
And makes me walk on my high places.” Habakkuk 3:17-19 (NASB)
4. PHYSICALLY BOW THE KNEE.
There is something that breaks when we bow down before the LORD. There is freedom in submitting to the Savior of the world.
(Nicole C. Mullen – On My Knees)
James tell us: “Draw near to God (Submit)
Resist the devil (using the authority of Jesus name and the power of the Holy Spirit).
He will draw near to you.
Embrace the pain. Cry out to God. Ask God to bring light to the situation.
Ask Jesus to show you where the pain begins. What is the source? Where did you first “shut down.” Sometimes when you sit quietly before the LORD, He will reveal Himself in amazing truths.
In the desert:
There is loneliness
In Jesus:
We can be alone but not lonely
In the desert:
There is thirst- dryness spiritually/emotionally
In Christ:
There is living water to refresh you
In the desert:
there are sandstorms that keep you from being able to see.
In Jesus:
You have the light of the world to guide you.
In the desert:
there is physical exhaustion where walking in the sand is laborious and hard.
In Jesus:
You have life and new mercies every morning.
Jesus speaking to Peter, “Simon, Simon, behold, Satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers.” (Luke 22:31-32)
Father,
I pray for anyone experiencing a desert at this moment. Help them to find you in the desert. Recall to them that you hold them fast in your hands. Help them to call out to you and resolve in their hearts to persevere through this difficult season. Thank you Jesus that you are interceding on our behalf before the Father right now. In the name of Jesus, I pray that you will deliver them from the tormentors of their soul so they can see clearly your way of escape.
Thank you Jesus.
Your “little one” and daughter,
Freda
