Hebrews 13:1-6 “Let brotherly love continue.
2 Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.
3 Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.
4 Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.”
Paul is writing to Jewish Christians. Doubly persecuted. Persecuted by Rome. Persecuted by their fellow Jews. No longer looking for Messiah but believing He has come! Now trying to live as Jews but knowing they are now free from the weight of sin debt, free of constant sacrificing, no longer in need of a priest to enter the holy place for them, free from the law.
Paul reminds them to keep their heads held high. Remember “your manners” as my Mamma used to say. An admonition to live a life above reproach: speech, faithful in marriage, being satisfied with what you have, visit the prisons, and be hospitable. A life to be respected by a watching world.
Then he shares his reason for this reminder: Read verse 6 again, 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me. If we are faithful to Him (and even when we are not) we can proclaim in confidence the source of our faith, strength, and courage is the LORD and this is how we walk through uncertain times confidently.
Through His Word the LORD has given us nearly one hundred reasons to fear not. Our fear need not be bigger than our faith. So, today, will you be bold and take the leap of faith God is calling you too? “To boldly go where no man has gone before.” Not science fiction. A. Real. Life. Adventure!! NO FEAR! If the Lord is with us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) Joel Osteen is quoted as saying, “Faith activates God. Fear activates the enemy.” Activate your faith!
