Pain. God’s megaphone

Pain: God’s megaphone

“pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is his megaphone to rouse a deaf world.

C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain

“Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also more hard to bear. The frequent attempt to conceal mental pain increases the burden: it is easier to say “My tooth is aching” than to say “My heart is broken.”
C.S. Lewis, The Problem of Pain

At times the only way God can get us to listen is speak loudly in a language we all understand.

P-A-I-N.

I think everyone should know that not all pain and suffering is because we are not listening. Our bodies are so intricately designed with all the things that keep us alive each day. We live in a fallen world; we don’t always take care of our bodies as we should. But there are times in our lives that God wants desperately to get our attention. Pain will drive us to our knees and to His presence very quickly.

We can agree with C.S. Lewis when he said, “pain insists upon being attended to.His statement about mental pain is also such a valid point. In today’s world, there is so much hurt and anger. We see it all around us. We know in our heart that God has the answer but we are not able to communicate it to those who are broken and their burden is so heavy that they can not communicate how bad they are hurting.

I struggle with the “not knowing” what to say. Saying God is the answer just will not do!!!

The Broken Way ..

When our hearts are breaking we need one another. We need to speak our need. We need to respond to these spoken needs in others.

  1. If you are in a dark place, know that you are not alone. Even if it feels that way; you are never alone. Deuteronomy 31:8 “ And the LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will NEVER leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
  2. Walk by faith and not by sight or feeling. Please have the courage to reach out to a friend even if it is not what you want to do.
  3. Know that there are others who have and may still be walking in the same darkness and they know what you are feeling. Many have found their way out and long to comfort and be there to walk with you.
