Earth IS His Footstool

Footstool of God’s Throne

Psalm 132:7, 13-14 We will go into His tabernacles: we will worship at His footstool. This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.

Isaiah 66:1/ Acts 7:49 Thus says the LORD, “Heaven is my throne and the earth is My footstool. Where then is a house you could build for Me? And where is a place that I may rest?

Hebrews 2:8 You have put all things in subjection under His feet, for in subjecting all things to His, He left nothing that is not subject to Him. But now we do not yet see all things subjected to Him.

The purpose of the Songs of Ascent is to prepare the worshipper for worship at the Temple of God: To move eyes, thoughts, and feet toward the dwelling place of God. A fresh vision of the LORD was needed. God’s mission was accomplished today. A new, enlarged, and an Isaiah-like response, “Woe is me, I am undone because I am a (wo)man of unclean lips and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the KING, the LORD of Hosts.” (Isaiah 6:5), was mine. Until we have a renewed vision of the holiness of God, worship becomes mundane, repetitive, and lacks the genuineness the LORD desires in our worship. We become like entitled brats rather than grateful recipients of our inheritance.

The Tabernacle/Temple are replicas of the reality revealed in Heaven to Moses, Isaiah, and John (Exodus 25:9, 40, 26:30, 27:8, Acts 7:44, Hebrews 8:1-5, 9:11-12) of God’s throne room. The way to approach Holy God is laid out and the Messiah is on vivid display. God’s desire from the beginning was to dwell with man here on earth (Genesis 3:8, Ezekiel 37:27).

I Chronicles 28:2 Then King David rose to his feet and said, “Listen to me, my brethren and my people; I had intended to build a permanent home for the ark of the covenant of the LORD and for the footstool of our God. So I had made preparations to build it.

This is the expanded view of God received from this idea of worship at the footstool. This is a vivid picture of how big our God is! Heaven is His throne and earth is His footstool and the ark positioned on earth is literally a part of His throne and everything is under His resting Holy feet! This vision of His children sitting around His footstool in worship is so incredibly beautiful. No separation from the Father, but a total confidence to approach the throne of grace and feel forever loved.

The Ark of the Covenant is described in I Samuel 4:4 and II Samuel 6:2 as the throne of God and He dwells between the cherubim. When we go up to HIs tabernacles we find the place He has chosen to dwell—the hearts of man. (I Corinthians 3:16) “We will worship at his footstool. The best ordered earthly house can be no more than a footstool of so great a King. His ark can only reveal the glories of His feet, according to His promise that He will make the place of His feet glorious:………..Where Jehovah is, there shall He be worshipped.” (biblestudytools.com/commentaries/treasury-of-david/psalms -132-7.html)

Psalm 99:5 sums it up perfectly. Exalt the LORD our God and worship at His footstool; HOLY IS HE! (emphasis mine)

Resting Place by Vineyard

LORD, God of Heaven and Earth,

I come to sit at Your footstool. I ask nothing. I desire only to be in Your Presence. I thank You for this undeserved privilege and I thank You for preparing the way for me to come and enter into Your Holy of Holies. Thank you for opening my eyes to Your vastness. I worship You. I join the angels and lift high Your name. May the rocks never take my place in worship of You oh LORD. I give you my heart as Your resting place.

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

We would love to hear from you
