The Lord is my Light
Psalm 27:1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the defense of my life;
Whom shall I dread?
The Lord is the defense of my life; Whom shall I dread?When evildoers came upon me to devour my flesh, my adversaries and my enemies, they stumbled and fell. Though a host encamp against me, My heart will not fear; Though war arise against me, In spite of this I shall be confident. One thing I have asked from the LORD, that I shall seek; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life. To behold the beauty of the LORD and to meditate in His temple. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; In the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock.
Verse 13 I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.
When God wanted to send His message of love to us, He began at the beginning. Genesis 1:1 “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and the earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light.”
First Creation was Light
The first creation of God was light! Light must have had top priority for God to bring light to the world He was about to create. In the beginning, the universe was formless and empty. Into that empty place came light. John 1:5 says, “The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” (NASB) God begins His story with His Son and the redemption of man. John 8:12 “Jesus is the Light of the World. Then Jesus again spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the Light of the World; he who follows Me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the Light of Life.’”
The first light was separated from darkness. And on the fourth day of creation, He gave us Sunshine to govern the day and the lesser light, the moon to govern the night. The moon is not a source of light it only reflects the source of light, the Sun, in our physical world.
Jesus separates darkness and brings light
When Jesus came to earth, He came as THE light to the world. He came to separate the darkness and bring light. “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” John 12:46 NASB
Psalm 18:28 “For it is you who light my lamp; the Lord my God lightens my darkness.”
Ephesians 5:8 “for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
Psalm 139:12 “even the darkness is not dark to you; the night is bright as the day, for darkness is as light with you.” God is not affected by the dark. In our darkness moments, He is still the light that guides and comforts us.
How much light do we need?
We need just enough light to see!
The one who gave us the Sun and His Son gives light enough for today.
Spiritually, how much light do we need? Jesus is our light. In Him we have everything we need.
Glory to the light of the world!!
The Lord is my Light and my Salvation. Praise Him in the dark for the light within us.
A quote from Elisabeth Kubler-Ross gives us an analogy of the light that is within us. “People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
Many people try to sparkle when the sun is out. Their lives hide the darkness they sometimes feel around them. But when we have His light within us the true beauty of Jesus shines forth through all the darkness.
