The Many Doors in Life

Mark 2:2 “So many people gathered that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and He preached the word to them.

COME ON IN

During Biblical times, in the Eastern culture when a door was left open it meant ‘come on in’. In Mark 2, Jesus had arrived to this house in Capernaum. The people heard of His coming and apparently the door was open and all that could gathered in the house, in the doorway and the small courtyard to hear what Jesus had to say. This was early in His ministry and the people were very curious because they had heard much about this man named Jesus. In this scripture, Jesus healed a paraplegic which was lowered from the roof because the door was blocked by people. Today let’s focus on doors.

OPEN DOOR

I recently visited my brother and his wife in Naples, Florida. The house next door to them was under construction and almost complete. The workers would leave the house unlocked and the garage door open so people would literally ‘come on in’. People are interested and curious to see what someone else has done or is doing.  I guess when the door is open we feel at liberty to make ourselves at home. An open door is an invitation to ‘come on in’.

SHUT DOOR

Genesis 7 tells us about Noah. God told Noah to build an ark because it was going to rain. Noah obeyed the Lord. He preached to the people and warned them of the coming flood, but they didn’t listen. When the ark was completed the door was open, but when the time came for the rain, Genesis 7:16 says, “the Lord shut him in”. However, God closed the door and there was no more time to go into the ark. There was no more time to repent and accept God’s invitation. The door was shut.

HEART’S DOOR

Revelation 3:20 NIV, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in.” Jesus is addressing a complacent church. Their heart’s door is shut, but He is knocking to enter. Jesus desires an intimate relationship with each one. To have that relationship, we must open the door and allow Him to come in. Isn’t it wonderful that we have a Savior that knocks and waits for us with such grace and love. Open the door!

ONE DOOR

John 10:9 Jesus says, “I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.” Jesus tells us that there is only one way to life eternal and that is through Him. He is the door to salvation. Once that door is entered, we will find all our needs supplied.

CLOSED DOOR

Luke 13:25, “When once the Master of the house has risen up and shut the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open for us, and He will answer and say to you ‘I do not know you, where you are from’. Those who are indifferent to Jesus and have not entered into a personal relationship with Him will find themselves behind a closed door once it is shut. Jesus will not allow you to enter. The door will be permanently closed at the Last Judgment.

OPEN WIDE

There is one more open door that we need to consider. The tomb is open. The door to eternal life with Christ begins the moment you accept Him. When Jesus died Joseph wrapped Jesus in linen and placed him in the tomb. Then a large stone was rolled over the entrance. On the third day, the Bible tells us the women, upon approaching the tomb, found the stone was rolled away. The door was open. Jesus is alive and the door is still open wide. Jesus, the Door, the only way to heaven, is lingering so that all may come to know Him. Don’t be unprepared for His coming. Accept Jesus as your Savior. Develop an intimate relationship with Him and enjoy the full benefits of walking with Him before the door closes.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace

Great message Paula. I have missed going through so many doors. Missed lots of blessings, I am sure. Thankful for some closed doors, as well.
    God bless!
