THE LAMB

John 1:29 NKJV, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

Is the blood of Christ an essential part of our faith? Is it necessary to talk about the blood? Some denominations have decided to eliminate songs or sermons that mention blood. So, does it need to even be included in sermons or songs? What does the Bible say about the blood?

ATONEMENT OF SIN

Leviticus 17:11a, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood.”

In the first chapters of Leviticus, God gives Moses instructions on the sacrificing of

the lamb and other animals to make atonement for sins. Atonement means that the blood which symbolizes the flesh is sacrificed to cover sin temporarily. The blood shed did not do away with sin’s presence, but made it possible for the people to fellowship with God. The Old Testament foreshadowed the coming of Jesus Christ who is the true Sacrificial Lamb.

WE ARE ONE WITH CHRIST

I Peter 1:19a, “the precious blood of Christ”

Because of the precious blood of Christ, we are redeemed from the law of the Old Testament and made one with Him. Jesus Christ paid a worthy price for you and me.

Christ gave His life’s blood to buy us out of sin and death.

REMISSION OF SIN

Hebrews 9:22, “according to the law, almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission.”

Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sin. Remission signifies a release from bondage and forgiveness, with the added bonus of canceling out all judgment or punishment. Apart from the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness of sin, so Jesus’ blood is essential in cleansing of sin. In the Old Testament, the animal sacrifices did not make the worshippers perfect, it only served to remind them their sins.

OVERCOME THE ENEMY

Revelation 12: 11, “they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb”

In Revelation, John writes that we overcome the enemy through the blood of the Lamb. If we are fighting with the blood of Jesus, we are fighting with a weapon that does not know defeat.

THE BLOOD OF JESUS

Charles Spurgeon writes, “The blood of Jesus! sin dies at its presence, death ceases to be death; heaven’s gates are opened. The blood of Jesus! we shall march on, conquering and to conquer, so long as we can trust its power!”

Jesus’ death on the cross and shedding of blood was the ultimate sacrifice of love for you and me. Through the blood we are one with Christ, have remission of our sins and are overcomers. Wouldn’t you agree the blood of Jesus is important to our faith?

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
