Busy, Busy, Busy

Too Busy? Slow down sit with Jesus a little while.

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY

Ephesians 2:8-9 NCSB, “For you are saved by grace through faith, and this is not from yourselves; it is God’s gift — not from works, so that no one can boast.”

NOT FROM WORKS

Busy is a word that means that all our attention is focused on certain tasks to the extent that we are unable or perhaps choose not to think about anything else. During the years of 1978-1981, my life was focused on rearing two girls and in 1981, I birthed a son. Being occupied with a family and church activities kept me busy. Would you teach Sunday School? Yes. Would you serve on these committees? Yes. Would you help with the preschool choir? Yes. All these things in the hope that I was serving the Lord and pleasing Him at the same time receiving accolades for the flesh. The Bible clearly states that work does not save us. Salvation is a gift of God through faith.

An acronym for busy that I have had written in my Bible for years is:

B – being
U – under
S – Satan’s
Y – yoke

DISTRACTED

Being busy keeps us from spending time with the Lord, focusing on His will and His way for our lives and finding the real true meaning of a relationship with Him. I was still searching for that peace and inner contentment that only comes from a personal relationship with God. Staying occupied with activities helped keep my attention distracted so I didn’t think about what I was missing in my spirit.

Luke 10:38-42, “While they were traveling, He entered a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who also sat at the Lord’s feet and was listening to what He said. ‘Lord, don’t You care that my sister has left me to serve alone? So tell her to give me a hand.’ The Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset by many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right choice, and it will not be taken away from her.”

DO NOT NEGLECT

Jesus was not critical of Martha’s hospitable activities; however, He is concerned with her worry and distractions. He, I believe, is reminding us it is important to balance our busy lives with our personal time and relationship with Him. We are to serve God. Each child of God has spiritual gifts that He has given us and these gifts should be used to serve Him. To be effective in our time and service, we must not neglect our prayer time and time in the word of God.

AT HIS FEET

Evaluate your busyness. Even if it is a church activity, it does not mean it is something you need to do. Take stock of what you spend your day doing. Does social media rob you of valuable time? One of the most important things in your day is that you take time to sit at Jesus’ feet. At His feet we should relax, talk with Him and read His word. Submit to Him and expect to hear from Him.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
