The Escape Room
Popular among youth and children today is a game named “the escape room”. The room is locked and the object is to find all the clues that will lead them to the key to unlock the door and the kids can escape. There is a time limit so if you do not ‘escape’ in the specified time, you lose the game. What a gratifying feeling to unlock the door and be free from the bondage!
Key to Eternal Life
Searching for a key to open the door for answers to problems or worries takes time and much decision making. Also, searching for a ‘key’ to eternal life is a very emotional and challenging thing. Furthermore, there is a time limit, our lifetime. The sooner we find the key, the sooner we will be free and escape the bondage of sin and death. Also, the sooner we can serve under the authority of Jesus.
Searching
I had been searching for the key to eternal salvation for several years. I believed in Jesus Christ as the Son of God. Yes, I was learning the Bible, but I never had the assurance that I was saved. In October 1981, my third child, was born. I stayed home a couple of months from church. My daughter, Amy, was 7 years old. She visited the Baptist church with her grandparents during that time. She enjoyed her visits and was so excited when she came home.
Attend Church as a Family
The time came when I was ready to return to our church and I told Amy. She said, “Momma, I want you to drop me off at the Baptist church and you can just pick me up when y’all get out.” We discussed the need to attend church as a family. I decided that we would visit the Baptist church with her and we would talk about the future afterwards.
Where Would You Spend Eternity
At that time, rumors in town were about the fiery, red-haired preacher at the church. He preached a tremendous sermon that day. He asked, “if you were to die today, do you know where you would spend eternity?”. I knew I had no assurance of my eternity, but I was certain I would find the key to unlock that door.
Free From the Bondage of Sin
In May 1982, Dr. Glen Savell led me through the scriptures that unlocked the door for me. I was free from the bondage of sin. My eternal destination was settled. I was adopted into the family of God. There was a feeling of relief, excitement and exhilaration to finally be assured of my salvation .
Have You Found the Key
Revelation 3:20 NKJV, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me.”
