The Revealing Light

My Home. Light shines through the windows each day

The revealing light is Jesus

John 8:12, NKJV, “Then Jesus spoke to them again saying, ‘I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.’”

The Sunlight

The sunrise on a cloudless day is so bright in my house. It shines through our windows on the east side. The light of the sun beams through and not a single speck of dust, dog hair on the floor or the random spider web go unnoticed. The light reveals all. After I see the things that need cleaning in my house, I attempt to make it spotless. Unfortunately, the next day there is more dirt, hair and dust that needs to be removed.

Light Exposes Sin

Ephesians 5:8 NKJV, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” v. 13, “all things exposed are made manifest by the light.”

Jesus tells us He is the Light of the world. If He is the Light, then the Light dwells in those of us that know Him as our personal Lord and Savior. The Light reveals the dirt and filth of our lives. It is what is known as sin. If we will turn to the Light, pull back the curtains and ask Him to show us all the dirt and filth in our lives, then we can seek forgiveness.

I John 1:9, NKJV, “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

John lets us know that God is faithful and forgiving. To live a life with sin can be compared to bondage and suffering. David put it best in Psalms.

Psalms 32:3-4, “When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy on me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”

David had sin in his life and he sought forgiveness and God forgave him. He writes in these verses the description of how he felt when he was overcome with sin. It is essential that we as Christians shine the Light within and seek God’s forgiveness of our sins daily because just like the dust and grime in a house, sin keeps infiltrating our lives.

Light Glorifies God

Matthew 5:14-16, NKJV, “You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Jesus tells us that we are to be lights in a dark world. People are to see our light and recognize that we glorify God in all we say and do. We are to exemplify the fruit of the Spirit in showing our love, kindness, gentleness, goodness to others. Let your light so shine that people will see Jesus in you and desire to know Him.

God and the Lamb are the Light

Isaiah 60:19, “The sun shall no longer be your light by day, nor the brightness shall the moon give light to you; but the LORD will be to you an everlasting light, and your God your glory.”

Revelation 21:23, “The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.”

Isaiah and John are writing about heaven. Once we are all in heaven and there is a new heaven and earth, there will be no need for the sun or moon because the presence of God and the Lamb will illuminate heaven. They will be the light, and the Bible tells us there will be no darkness or shadows. What a glorious day that will be!

Be the revealing light of Jesus!

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
