Flip Flops on the Sand

Flip Flops on the sand -Shake off the sand

Shake the dust out of the flip flop

Flip flop in the sand

Mark 6:11, “If any place does not welcome you and people refuse to listen to you, when you leave there, shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.”

Flip Flops

Flip flops are an optimal accessory at the beach. As you flip, flop, flip, flop through the sand, sand gets between your toes and under your feet. It is warm and soft at first, but after awhile it can irritate and be abrasive. To rid the sand from our feet and flip flops, we shake them off.

Shake the Dust Off

In Mark 6:11, the disciples were to shake the dust off their feet when they departed from a home that refused the gospel. It indicated that the disciples were to treat those who rejected the gospel as though they were pagans. Shaking off the dust or sand is a reminder to me to shake off the emotional hurt or disappointment when someone refuses to accept Christ. It is important to remember that if people refuse the gospel, they are refusing Jesus Christ not us. We cannot ‘save’ people; we can only share our hearts and testimony about Him.

The Abrasiveness of Sand

Years ago, Joe and I were at a family reunion. Joe’s uncle spoke loudly about his adult son who had recently turned his life over to Christ and surrendered to preach. The son so loved his family and wanted them to know Jesus as well. The uncle was complaining about the constant ‘preaching’ to the family that his son was doing. It is a reminder of the abrasiveness of sand. The more it rubs, the more is irritates.

Let Them See Jesus in You

All believers desire for their loved ones and friends to know Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. We desire for them to know the love of God and spend eternity in heaven. What do we do when they reject the gospel? We should not walk away from the ones we love. We must remember they are not rejecting us.

Plant the seed of the gospel to each one, fertilize and water. Too much fertilizer and water will kill the seed. Therefore, be gentle, loving and kind. Let them see Jesus in you through your service and love. Pray they will one day accept Him as Savior.

I Peter 4:8, “And above all things have fervent love for one another.”

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
