Planting Seeds, Everyday Matters
26 “Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens.” Mark 4:26-27 (NLT)
Another school year is in the books for me. As I look back on the last few days of year 23 for me, I remember the smiles and excitement on my students faces, and mine, knowing that summer was approaching. I also thought about the things I tried to teach them that weren’t related to math. Additionally, I don’t think I have ever tried to plant as many seeds as I did this year. I love what I do, but some days are certainly tougher than others.
As a teacher, I get to witness so many incredible moments which make it all worth it. I also get to witness the heartbreak my students go through and I cry along with them. Planting seeds in students is an important part of my job and makes me realize that “everyday matters.” Planting seeds can change the life of a kid. Not planting a seed can change the life of a kid. That is what makes “everyday matters” so important to me.
One success in planting
One of the moments I was blessed to witness with a student was one I will never forget. I remember encouraging, giving confidence, and loving on a child. It fueled him so much, that he overcame so many challenges. It was just a small seed of having faith to overcome what is challenging to you. This student did his part and had faith that his hard work would pay off. It certain did pay off. He learned what you do “everyday matters.” Everyday that I looked into this student’s eyes, I saw gratitude, kindness, love, and a growing confidence in him. As his teacher, it was just an honor to to witness the growth.
Some seeds seemingly fall on stony ground
On the other hand, there were some students I tried to plant a seed in where I didn’t see growth. I watered and watered daily. Just when I thought I was about to see a glimpse of growth, my seed got trampled. Some students just don’t trust the advice given and choose other options. I can only pray that something stuck with them and one day they will pull it back out and use it.
Everyday matters
So I want to remind all of you, what you do “everyday matters.” The seeds that you try to plant are so important and could be life changing to another person. Seeing the seeds you plant take off and grow are a tremendous blessing that will fuel you to keep wanting to do good.
9 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. 10 Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.” Galatians 6:9-10 (NLT)
Counting My Blessings,
