Let Me ‘Fix’ It

Let me "fix it"

Psalms 27:14, NKJV, “Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”

Are you a ‘fixer’?

During a conversation with a friend, I asked how things were going. His response was that he was ‘trying to hold things together’. My heart went out to him because I could see the pain in his eyes as he spoke those words. I couldn’t help but chuckle later as I thought of his words because what a great way to put it. In my words I would have said, “I’m trying to fix everyone’s problem so we can live in harmony”. Are you a ‘fixer’? My desire is for everyone to live in peace without conflict and problems. Unfortunately, I don’t have the answers that will make difficulties disappear and life wonderful. That is a lesson I learned the hard way.

Sarai Attempted to Fix Their Problem

Genesis 16:2, NKJV, “Sarai said to Abram, ‘See now the Lord has restrained me from bearing children. Please, go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children by her.’ And Abram heeded the voice of Sarai.”

Throughout scripture people have tried to fix their problems. God promised Abraham that he would be the father of many. Abraham believed God, but as he and Sarah grew older and beyond childbearing years, Sarah decided she needed to fix the problem. She offered her handmaiden to Abraham so he would have an heir. Life became very complicated after the handmaiden had a baby boy. Sarah got mad at the handmaiden, the child and Abraham. Life was a challenge for them all because they did not wait on the Lord.

His Timing is Perfect

God’s promises don’t need our help to make them happen. As hard as we may try, we can’t fix life. Sarah made a mess of her life and so often I make a mess of mine. God tells us to wait on Him. Stand on His promises, but be patient because His timing is perfect. It is so hard to be patient when your loved one is sick. It is so hard to be patient when we are stuck in traffic with an appointed time to arrive. It is hard to be patient with a rebellious child. It is extremely hard to be patient when we are standing on the promises of God and nothing seems to happen.

Be Patient

When my children were in VBS years ago, one of the songs they sang was called, “Be Patient”. The words as I remember were, “Be patient, be patient, don’t be in such a hurry. Be patient, be patient, you’ll only start to worry. Remember, remember that God is patient, too. And think of all the times that others had to wait on you.” Occasionally, the children and I sing that song when one of the grandchildren is being very impatient. It is a reminder to be patient as God ‘fixes’ the situation.

The Holy Spirit Prays for Us

Romans 8:26-27a, MSG, “Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless signs, our aching groans.”

When our circumstances are spiraling out of control, we don’t know what to pray or even how to pray. God tells us to just trust because His Spirit is with us and praying for us. Keep your eyes upon God and He will take care of the situation in His time and His perfect way.

Wait On The Lord

God does not want us to sit idly by and do nothing. We are to be busy about the Lord’s work in our daily lives. When things are getting out of control, we should turn our situation over to the Lord. Wait on Him to work out the situation. Patience is a fruit of the Spirit. When we are filled with the Spirit, we are more able to be patient and stop trying to ‘fix’ it or as my friend said, ‘trying to hold things together’.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace
