Week 3 Advent JOY

Luke 2:10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

Psalm 30:5 For His anger endureth but a moment; in His favor is life: weeping may endure for a night but joy cometh in the morning.

John 15:11 These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

JOY

Advent’s third week candle is pink. Pink represents JOY. It is also called the shepherd’s candle.

When my oldest granddaughter was small she needed a way to express her feelings. I found a delightful book by Dr. Seuss titled, My Many Colored Days. Feelings were described as colors in the color wheel. Happy was pink…..”It’s great to jump and just not think.”

Joy and happiness are different. Joy is not dependent on circumstances, happiness is. This was the beginning of her learning the difference. Even today, at times, I will text her wishing her a “pink kind of day.” But, my prayer for her daily is JOY unending.

J-O-Y Jesus, Others and You

JOY is also said to be an acronym for Jesus, Others, You. Joy comes from having our priorities aligned correctly. First things, first.

Jesus came to earth to assuage the anger of the God caused by mankind’s sin. God’s favor gives us life. Our life on earth is our night. But our JOY will come like resurrection morning’s dawn. HE IS RISEN! May we never forget why the baby Jesus was born. He was born as the Bread of Life in the house of Bread (Bethlehem). He was born as the lamb of God, out among the sacrificial lambs, in a consecrated shelter, and wrapped in swaddling clothes (priest garments used to bind the lambs to protect from injury). Jesus is He; who died to take away the sin of the world. The JOY we now know is in knowing we are forgiven and have an eternal home with Christ in heaven. (John 1:29, John 3:16, 36, John 10:28-30, I John 5:11,13, Romans 6:23)

May you have a pink kind of day filled with both JOY and happiness in this sacred season of the year.

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

We would love to hear from you
