Peace on Earth by Casting Crowns
Angel’s Candle for Peace
The fourth candle of Advent is purple. Also, known as the Angel’s candle because they “brought good tidings of great joy to all people for peace on earth, goodwill to men.” (Luke 2:14) Is this not what we, the lost and lonely, pray for and seek for ourselves. The angels brought a sacrifice of praise and a hint of the future for mankind. The promise of restoration of all we once had in the Garden: Peace with God and man. Harmony in the animal kingdom: the Lion lying with the Lamb! (Isaiah 11:6)
The holidays often bring anything but peace. Hearts hurt. Families bicker. Loved ones absent. Activities crowd out the meaning of the season. Fear of not being enough weighs
heavy on the shoulders of those wanting to please. Grief rears its ugly head. All the beauty of the season marred by the distractions. The enemy succeeds in keeping our eyes off heaven and on ourselves, unlike the shepherds whose eyes were focused heavenward and whose feet ran to see this “long expected Messiah.” (Haggai 2:7)
