“I Did Good”
5 “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.” 1 Peter 1:5-7 (NIV)
I was watching episode 1 of Kirk Cameron’s, “One on One,” this past weekend. This episode was a down to earth episode about raising kids and time spent with family. Kirk Cameron, and his sisters, sat around a kitchen table as they talked about their children growing up, developing into their own, and leaving the nest. He and his sister shared how confident they felt as parents because of the time invested in their children.
As a mom, I hope I did enough. Having your children leave the nest is one of the most painful experiences. It physically hurt me. But now, it is a joy to see the fruits of the many things I have hope for my children. I am seeing them grow from mistakes and wisdom.
Praying for our Children
On New Years Eve, my family and I went to communion and had a time of prayer. We prayed for the things we hope for the New Year. We prayed to see the blessings in every day. We prayed for clear minds and wisdom. We prayed for patience. We prayed to grow in the Lord. This is what I hope for my children, especially to grow in the Lord.
So make every effort to invest in your children and relationships. So many things can be added to the ones you love just investing your time. We all want to be able to pat ourselves on the back when we look at the people our children have grown up to be. We all want to say, “I did good.”
Counting My Blessings,
