Rain, Rain More Rain

rain bring color to lichen

Jeremiah 2:13, MSG, “the fountain of fresh flowing waters”

Rain, rain and more rain. Our area has been inundated with water lately. The rivers are overflowing and many have been affected by the abundance of rain. I am praying for those whose lives have been altered by the outpouring of rain.

Life to the Lichen

As I was looking out my window, I could not help but notice the beautiful greenish, gray colors that cover the trees. The moisture from the rain seems to bring life to the lichen that is growing on the trees. During dry periods, the trees are just brown and gray bark. One would never notice the lichen attached. It is still on the tree, but not noticeable or visible.

John 7:37-38, NKJV, “On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ‘if anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’”

Living Water

Throughout scripture, water is a symbol, a ‘type’, of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of God is the divine nature and power of God. The Bible tells us that out of our heart will flow living water, the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit indwells us. Each day we are to seek God through His word, in prayer and ask for God to fill us with His Spirit.

Life with the Holy Spirit

The lichen reminds me of being filled with the Holy Spirit. When we are receiving the ‘rain’ from God, we are filled with spiritual color. Some of the things the Bible tells us the Holy Spirit does in our life are:

John 16:14: He will glorify Jesus

John 16:13: He will guide us in all truth

I Corinthians 2:10-15: He helps us know the things of God and understand the scripture.

Galatians 5:22-23: He provides us with the fruit of the Spirit.

Seek Him Each Day

These are just a few scripture that tells of the Holy Spirit. He is essential in the Christian walk for us to truly shine for God. He guides us and gives us boldness in our walk. We must seek each day to be filled with the Spirit. If we neglect being filled, people will not notice that we are a Christian.

Seek the Rain in Your Life

It has not rained in a couple of days and already the lichen is becoming dull and lifeless. The trees are looking brown and without much color. It doesn’t take long for us to neglect asking to receive the ‘rain’ from God to lose the traits that the Holy Spirit gives us. We become flesh and will not walk in the Spirit.

Seek the ‘rain’ in your life. Your glow each day will allow others to see

Christ in you and give you spiritual strength and boldness.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace

Perfect timing for this encouraging message. I pray that the Holy Spirit will be evident in us in such a time of turmoil in our nation. Praying for our leaders to listen and obey . This goes for me, as well! Bless you for your time and study.
