Covid-19

Isaiah 54:17

Psalm 91:9-12

Covid-19

A new plague has assaulted the world. It is called Covid-19. A deadly virus has swept unchecked across the planet and is causing the gamut of emotions from apathy to sheer terror. Parents are at home caring for their children, entire companies are shut down, access to goods and services is limited, lines are long, and a bit of dismay is on the face of millions. What will happen next? We do not know.

Social Distancing

As a healthcare worker, I continue to go to work; I go to a funeral as a family member; As a mom, I go to the doctor with a child. Life continues to go on but it is somehow very different. We are experiencing social distancing and yet, what is happening is a reconnection of ourselves as a community. Neighbors are speaking to neighbors with requested distancing and neighbors are reaching out to neighbors.

Questions, Questions

There are questions: Questions with some immediate answers and others have no answer. We ask, “ Will coronavirus attack me, my family, my friends?” I propose the better question is this: “Do I truly trust in Jesus and who He says He is?” (Mark 8:27) This point in time requires me to press hard into Him. My head knowledge had better match my heart. I “must know, that I know, that I know,” to quote a favorite preacher. My eternity will depend on my answer to this question. If you want to know what’s in your heart listen to what is coming out of your mouth! (Proverbs 12:14)

Separation

Separation is the order of the day. Events are being postponed or cancelled altogether.  We, as believers are called to come out and be a separate, peculiar people. (I Peter 2:9)   Abraham obeyed God when he was called and led away from all he knew. (Genesis 12:1) The Lord called Paul sending him away from his homeland. To walk by faith is to, at times, simply trust and walk and believe God is who He says He is; leaving the outcome of my life in His hands. Faith doesn’t see where I am going; it requires following the trusted unseen hand. (II Corinthians 5:7)

Christ over viruses, infections, and death. (COVID-19)

Covid-19. Some are using it as an acronym for Christ over viruses, infections, and death.

I like this! Let’s be positive. Use the time to spend time one on one with Christ. Lean in to Him and choose this day whom you will serve. As for me and my house we have chosen to serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:14-15) I will render to Caesar what is Caesar’s (Mark 12:17) and I will do our part to be law-abiding citizens in the country whose motto is In God We Trust!

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!
