Who is Jesus Christ?
As we journey this week into an unknown day by day crisis in the world, we are coming face to face with Jesus Christ as Easter approaches. Church buildings are closed, but the building is not the church. The church is the group of believers whose hearts are united in a love for Jesus Christ and indwelled by the Holy Spirit. In Mark chapters 14 and 15, the Bible informs us of who Jesus Christ is.
Mark 15:2, NKJV, “Then Pilate asked Him, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?’ He answered and said to him, ‘It is as you say.’”
Jesus is My King
Jesus was asked by Pilate if He was King of the Jews. He accepted the title of King. He was insulted and falsely accused, but He responded with love and forgiveness. The soldiers put the title on the cross. Mark 15:26. Jesus is a fulfillment of a Davidic king. He will one day return and reign as King of kings.
Mark 15:32, NKJV, “Let the Christ, the King of Israel, descend now from the cross, that we may see and believe.”
Jesus is My Messiah
The chief priests, scribes and passers by were mocking Jesus as he hung on the cross. They taunted Him and called Him “the Christ”. The English word Christ comes from the Greek word Christos meaning Messiah, the Anointed One. Jesus Christ, the Messiah, will one day soon reign as King.
Mark 15:30-31, NKJV, “‘save Yourself, and come down from the cross!’ Likewise the chief priest also, mocking among themselves with the scribes, said, ‘He saved others; Himself He cannot save.’”
Jesus is My Savior
Once again we read of the mocking of Jesus while He was on the cross. The mockers had no idea of the truth they spoke. In order for Jesus to be the Savior of the world, He chose not to save Himself. He had to suffer the agony of the cross to save you and me.
Mark 14:61b-62a, NKJV, “Again the high priest asked Him, saying to Him, ‘Are You the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?’ Jesus said, ‘I AM.’”
Jesus is My LORD
The high priest asks Jesus if He was the Messiah, the Son of God. Jesus answered “I AM!” The high priest accused Him of blasphemy in verse 64. Why? Because Jesus’ response was that He was YHWH, Yahweh, declaring Himself to be the LORD.
“I Am”
In Exodus 3:14, God tells Moses that He is I AM. It implies the absolute existence of God. Jesus identified Himself as the LORD, the I AM..
Sunday we will celebrate the Risen Savior and Lord. It will be a unique celebration for us all. We will not be focusing on what everyone is wearing or how pretty the flowers are.It will be a time to worship, praise and focus on Jesus Christ. He alone is to be worshipped. Jesus alone is to be praised. He alone died for you and me so that we might have life eternal. Open your hearts and minds to see Him and allow His peace to enter your life.
