Psalms 46:8, MSG, “Attention, All! See the marvels of God. He plants flowers and trees all over the earth.”
Years ago my husband and I owned a garden center. Plants, especially those blooming, are so lovely. Mother’s Day week was the busiest week because hanging baskets and mixed plantings were a popular gift for Mother’s. One of my favorite things to do was to plant a mixed pot. After reading and attending classes, this form of art was one I enjoyed greatly.
Potential Beauty
Many people have inquired about what to put in a pot to make them beautiful. In addition to the plants chosen, potential beauty in a pot is dependent on so many factors. Sun or shade, lots of water or little and fertilizer.
The Thriller
The first plant to select for a mixed pot we will call a thriller. The thriller is a focal point of the flowers. It is placed in the center and generally grows upright and taller than the other plants. It is something people’s eyes are drawn to immediately when looking at the planting.
Be Creative
Examples of a thriller are grasses. Purple fountain grass or many other colorful grasses are a good focus of attention. Elephant Ears, Coral bells, Hosta and ferns make great thrillers in the pot. Make sure the plant chosen is for sun or shade depending on where you choose to place your pot. Have fun and be creative in planning your mixed pot.
Beautiful Christ Centered
God has shown me that there is a correlation between a beautiful mixed planting and a beautiful Christ centered person. Plants are visually beautiful. A person’s beauty comes from the heart whose focal point is Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ the Thriller
Matthew 22:37, NKJV, “Jesus said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
Jesus Christ should be our focal point or the thriller in our lives. As we center our attention on Him, we grow spiritually and our hearts are filled with love for the Lord. Keep your eyes upon Jesus. Let Him be the center of your life. ‘Plant’ Him in the center and fertilize by reading His word and allowing it to grow you into the person God wants you to be.
Be Grateful
Next week we will look at the filler plants. Have a great week. Enjoy the sunshine and be grateful for all God has created.
