Years ago at a church service, it came time for an altar call. I don’t recall the message that day, but I had an urging from the Holy Spirit to go to the altar. I remember arguing with God in my mind. Nothing came to mind that I needed to bring before the Lord. The urging became stronger. At that point, I chose obedience and went down. As I bowed on my knees, I heard, not an audible voice, but a very definite voice. The Lord said to me, “ I just wanted to tell you that I love you.” He had a message for me. The message would have been missed if I had not been obedient that morning. It brings tears to my eyes pondering the preciousness of that moment.
Unfortunately, obedience is not my strong point. The times I have been obedient have been such a blessing. For me, I guess the sin of omission is my biggest fault. Not obeying. Struggling with the urge to obey. Then beating myself up because I didn’t obey. Is there anyone reading this that can relate?
Encounter With God
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.” Isaiah 6:1 NKJV
Isaiah had an encounter with God. He plainly states that he saw the Lord. Wow! It is hard to even imagine what an awesome experience that would be. To get a glimpse of God in all His glory. What a life changing event for Isaiah. God’s robe flowed and filled the temple from His throne.
Have you had an encounter with God? I don’t mean a vision, but a moment in time when you answered His call and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. It is definitely a life changing event.
In Jehovah’s Presence
“So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The LORD of hosts.” Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a live coal which he had taken with the tongs from the altar. And he touched my mouth with it, and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin purged.”” Isaiah 6:5-7 NKJV
In the presence of Jehovah, Isaiah realized how unclean he was. Not only unclean himself, but he lived around others unclean. The closer we are to the Light, the more He reveals our sin. God provided a way for Isaiah to be clean. He has also provided a way for us to be clean. It is through the cross that God provided cleansing for us. We don’t need to walk around loaded by guilt. Be filled with the sense of God’s love for you.
Here I Am, Send Me!
“Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying: “Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?” Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”” Isaiah 6:8 NKJV
Isaiah made no excuses. He didn’t argue. He didn’t procrastinate. He just volunteered. He said I will go!
Surely we can gain some insight into Isaiah’s response. God used him in a mighty way.
What is God calling you to do? He could be calling you no further than to fall on your knees to pray. Feed a neighbor. Spend more time in the word. Show love.
His call on our lives is hard to ignore. Let’s respond
“Here I am. Send me!”
