“So I said, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest.” Psalms 55:6 NKJV
Have you ever just wanted to fly away and rest? David expressed that feeling to God. He wanted to escape from the chaos around him.
Oh, That I Had Wings to Fly
Covid-19 has taken over the news and the conversations. All the mandates and fears have become overwhelming. On top of that, people are still dealing with the ‘normal’ issues of life. People are still suffering from and getting treatments for cancer, heart disease and diabetes to name a few. Loved ones and friends have died. There are financial problems, marital problems and, for crying out loud, the AC has stopped working. Children may or may not be in school at the beginning of the year.
I repeat David, “Oh, that I had wings!”
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.” II Corinthians 1:3-4 NKJV
God Comforts
Since it is impossible to fly away, God is the God of comfort. He comforts us no matter the situation we find ourselves. So, how do we find that comfort because, to be honest, sometimes I don’t feel comforted. Well, the answer stares me in the face. I’ve allowed my circumstances to take control of my mind and life. I’ve stopped focusing on God and His promises. Yes, I know it is hard to find that quiet time to get on your knees and be undisturbed. Sometimes we even choose not to spend that special time with God because there is something else we would rather do.
“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” I John 4:8-9 NKJV
God Is Love
God’s love is something for which I am thankful.
At this moment, I choose to find rest in Him. Will you choose that, too? Find a secluded place and dwell on the presence of God. Imagine His arms around you giving comfort and warmth. God is love. He loves you and me so much that He sent His Son to die for us.
