“Then they cry out to the LORD in their trouble, And He brings them out of their distresses. He calms the storm, So that its waves are still.”Psalms 107:28-29 NKJV
Wave pools are like a constant battering of a storm. On a trip with my family, I ventured into the wave pool. The waves battered and battered. Every time I tried to stand up, the waves would knock me down. I fought and struggled and became exhausted. In my mind, I was determined to win this battle. I was on my knees for goodness sake. It seemed ridiculous that I could not stand. Finally, the waves stopped. The water calmed down.
Cry Out to the Lord
Peace at last. So often in the midst of our trouble, we fight the waves. We battle the circumstances, constantly being knocked down because the trouble is bigger than we are. This Psalm tells us to cry out to the Lord in our trouble.
Cry out in your exhaustion. (trouble)
Cry out in your despair. (pain and frustration)
Cry out to the Lord.
Turn it Over to God
The other day at the grocery store, I had an opportunity to chat with a sweet friend. She shared with me the troubles that she had been battling. Her financial needs was overwhelming leaving her emotionally drained. She had no idea how she would be able to ‘stand’ with the constant battering of the waves. With her strength gone, she cried out to the Lord in her trouble. She confessed to God her need and the fact that she could not handle her problems. She turned it over to God. Even though her circumstances have not changed, God has given her peace. He calmed the storm within her.
“Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people, And praise Him in the company of the elders.”
Psalms 107:31-32 NKJV
Give Thanks
Each day give thanks to the Lord! Trust Him to carry your burdens. Confess your needs to the Lord. Completely turn them over to Him. It is amazing how He can calm you and give you peace.
Share Your Story
Then, share your story. Tell others the wonderful things God has done for you. It blesses and encourages others so much. In a world that dwells on fear and anger, we all need to be reminded of how great our God is. He loves you so much that He sent His son to die for you. Will you trust Him to calm your storm?
