Set Your Mind on Others

Set Your Mind on Others

Thank you Lord

Do you smell it? Close your eyes and take a deep breath. Recall the days of your childhood. The aroma of the turkey and dressing cooking in my grandmother’s house brings such sweet memories.

The entire family gathered and for that one day life seemed perfect to a child. The love and laughter, the family bond of people who were far from perfect, but nonetheless, my family.

Family Gatherings Differ

As I have spoken to friends and acquaintances, their Thanksgiving plans have either been canceled or changed drastically in some ways. Some are separated from their loved ones by death of the loved one. It makes holidays so difficult. Others can’t see their parents or grandparents because of Covid restrictions. Traveling plans have been delayed. Family gatherings are definitely different this year.

Struggling to be Thankful

As plans have been altered at my house, I have struggled to bring myself to be thankful. Excuse my self-pity. There are so many things to be thankful for in my life and yours. We are beyond blessed. So what do we do to take control of our minds and stop wallowing in the dregs?

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:17‬NKJV

Acts of Kindness

Do acts of kindness for others. Focus on words and deeds that will help someone. We need to represent Jesus in all we do. Be a servant to others and put yourself last. If we focus on others, doing everything in the name of Jesus, we will be thankful to Him for the blessings we will receive.

Simple Deeds

Acts of kindness do not need to be complicated or expensive. A simple phone call and words of kindness or encouragement helps tremendously. Sharing something from your kitchen with others. A note sent through the mail is always welcomed.

Pray

Most importantly, pray. Ask God to show you each day an opportunity to serve someone. Be mindful of others and when God places them on your heart take action.

Be a Blessing to Others

In Jesus Calling it says, “A thankful mindset does not entail a denial of reality with its plethora of problems. Instead, it rejoices in Me, your Savior, in the midst of trials and tribulations.” Keep your mind on others. Your problems do not go away, but you will find your problems are no longer in the forefront of your life.

Allow God to use you to be a blessing to others.

Be thankful. We are truly blessed.

About Paula Wallace

A child of God, wife, mother and grandmother of 6 precious children. I love art, nature and treasure my dear friends. Through the valleys and mountaintops, God led me to His saving grace at the age of 32. Since then the valleys and mountaintops have proven His love to me. I am learning to trust Him in all things. My prayer is that you, too, accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and trust Him. The Bible verse that I lean on mostly is Proverbs 3: 5-6 “ Trust in the Lord with all your heart. And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your path.”NKJV Paula Wallace

We would love to hear from you
