2021 Vision
My husband, Joe, loves woodworking projects. He meticulously works on each piece with care and precision. However, he must have details and a picture of the finished product. I, on the other hand, can see the vision of how something should be done and the finished product. The biggest struggle we have is getting my vision into his mind’s eye.
“Where there is no prophetic vision the people cast off restraint, but blessed is he who keeps the law.” Proverbs 29:18 ESV https://www.bible.com/59/pro.29.18.esv
Have a Vision
Vision is thinking about or planning the future. With the beginning of a new year, it is important that we have a vision for the future. It is ‘mental sight’ of the future that inspires hope. This past year was so disappointing and difficult for so many because the goals, visions or dreams for the year were destroyed by unforeseen circumstances.
Seek God’s Vision
The word vision in Proverbs 29:18 is Hebrew for prophetic vision. The Old Testament prophets understood God’s matter so clearly because he revealed to them by visible means. Today we can receive divine insight or vision from God. It is important that we seek God’s vision for our lives or we fumble around accomplishing nothing.
The Message Bible puts it like this:
“If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.” Proverbs 29:18 MSG https://www.bible.com/97/pro.29.18.msg
How do we get the vision for our future that God wants us to have? Let’s look at Daniel who trusted God and was very blessed by God.
“In the first year of Darius the son of Ahasuerus, of the lineage of the Medes, who was made king over the realm of the Chaldeans— in the first year of his reign I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years specified by the word of the LORD through Jeremiah the prophet, that He would accomplish seventy years in the desolations of Jerusalem. Then I set my face toward the Lord God to make request by prayer and supplications, with fasting, sackcloth, and ashes.” Daniel 9:1-3 NKJV https://www.bible.com/114/dan.9.1-3.nkjv
TWO KEYS
To receive specific visions for your life in 2021, there are two keys in these verses.
- All Godly vision must come from and be grounded in our understanding from the scripture. In verse 2, Daniel was reading Jeremiah and saw that the Israelites would be captive for 70 years. God will reveal to you through His word any vision or goals you should work towards.
- Once you see the vision, then the fulfillment begins with prayer. Seek His direction on how to fulfill your vision that He has shown you. Don’t just assume you know how to get there. Like Joe, we need to ask questions. Seek God for direction and a complete picture. It will take patience and perseverance.
God’s Vision For You
Below are a couple of verses that assure us God has plans for our future.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29:11-13 NKJV https://www.bible.com/114/jer.29.11-13.nkjv
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 NKJV https://www.bible.com/114/eph.2.10.nkjv
God Has a Plan
God has planned or prepared ahead the way He wants us to walk. The more we study His word and pray, the clearer the vision He has for our lives.
What has God prepared for you to do in 2021? Don’t know? Read His word, ask Him, pray and obey. You will be blessed!
As a side note, Daniel 9:4-19 is an awesome prayer that Daniel prayed for his people and his nation. I hope you will read it and perhaps use this prayer to cover our nation, city and families.
