Have a Place to Stand

“Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.” 1 Corinthians 3:10 (NLT)

Be Sure You Are Going the Right Way

I went to a dinner the other night that was given by Equip Ministries. This ministry holds a deer hunt each year that my family is blessed to be a part of. People from all over Alabama and in different states come together to hunt, to raise money, and donate the deer that are harvested. After the dinner, Matt Kelley, the founder of Equip Ministries, stood up to give a message. He is the kind of speaker you could listen to all day.

Story of a Turtle

Mr. Kelley held up a turtle shell and began to relate it to a story of how he found the shell upside down. He explained how the turtle was probably going about his day and worked his way onto a log. As he was going over a log, he didn’t have enough sense to turn the other way or go a different way, but instead continued on the path he was on. As the turtle went over the log, he must have ended up on his back. Matt then explains how he probably kicked and kicked trying to get right side up again, but couldn’t. So the turtle didn’t make it and after a while, the shell ended up empty.  (Matt Kelley, Equip Ministries)

Build a Strong Foundation

As he wrapped up the turtle shell story, he related it to our lives and how if we don’t have a strong, spiritual foundation, we are going to end up like the turtle and go down the wrong path in life. That strong, spiritual foundation helps us know the right turns to take in our lives and leads us down the path Jesus hopes for us all to be on.

Have a place to stand

Jesus warns and tells us in the bible what happens when we don’t have a strong foundation. So how do we start building a strong foundation if we don’t have one? I think we start right in the bible and put it into our day to day practices. We pray the prayers we need to pray. Don’t be like the turtle and not have enough sense to go another direction. When we get ourselves ready and the storms of life hit us, we have a place to stand and weather it.

About Susan Browder

“Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.”  Hebrews 11:1 I grew up in a small town in Alabama called Boligee. I am a wife and a mom to two sons, Nick who is 24 and married to his sweet wife, Mallory, and Jacob who is 18.  My husband, Nicky, is a person of who I am so proud. Our lives changed forever on September 6, 2014 about 7:00 pm. Our son, Jacob, had an accident that would deeper our faith in God and challenge us in ways we never dreamed. My prayer is that our story will encourage others in their struggles with life altering experiences. My writing will be our testimonies but more than that it is about how we have a loving, caring God that carries us through the most difficult times of our lives.

We would love to hear from you
