Be Angry and Sin Not

We all have a personal story about times in our lives where we are given opportunities to “be angry and sin not.”  It is one of the lessons in life that is the hardest to walk through.

It Is Well With My Soul by Wintley Phipps

“It is in the quiet crucible of your personal, private sufferings that your noblest dreams are born and God’s greatest gifts are given in compensation for what you have been through.”

Helpful scriptures

Ephesians 4:26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath.

Romans 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.   (as much as depends on you)

Romans 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.

Hopping Mad  Be still

These scriptures have found new meaning for me. I am not given much to anger or seeking revenge or even carrying a grudge or chip on my shoulder. However, when I am mad it is “not pretty!” Those were the words of the officer and gentleman when he was asked one time, “Does she ever get angry?” It is NOT pretty and you can bet your last dollar I will mean what I say, never apologize for it, and not change my mind to think I was wrong.

Bitter Lessons

Why? Because I learned the hard way we do not always get a chance to articulate our apologies. Those are bitter lessons and I do not ever want a repeat performance. If I tell you just how mad I am and give you ultimatums you can be assured I have thought it through and have rehearsed it and prayed about it and have counted the costs!!! You better pay attention because I will not repeat it. I AM DONE!

Division  be angry and sin not

I bet you have guessed I have been pretty upset about something recently and you would be correct. The particulars are unimportant and to share the details would give the enemy just what he wants: Division. I will not give him that satisfaction.

Questions

My greatest fear is that I have compromised too much! This is my utter angst! This day and time is NO time for this! I “must know that I know that I know,” to quote a really good Preacher! We (I) must stand firm clothed with TRUTH and Righteousness and stand in the liberty by which Christ has made us (me) free, and not be entangled again with the yoke of bondage (pleasing people). Being steadfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the LORD, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord. (Ephesians 6:14, Galatians 5:1, I Corinthians 15:58)

Deuteronomy 12:32 Moses reminds the people what the Lord said, “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.”

Failures

I have failed at not letting the sun go down on my anger and the ONLY person in a tizzy is me! So, as I have had these Words of LIfe brought to mind as I sought the Lord, I have had to once again, go back to Eucharisteo and Yada! Gratitude and open-handed praise and let the Lord deal with the conundrum in my heart. So far, I haven’t clawed anyone’s eyes out or even said an unkind word! Thank you, LORD, for keeping Your hand over my mouth! I am having to put Matthew 5:44 into practice: “…love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you! This was Hannah’s example in I Samuel 2:1 … then Hannah prayed and said: “My heart rejoices in ….my mouth boasts over my enemies, for I delight in YOUR deliverance.” And Job’s example: And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends…”

Balance

Enemies is a really strong word. No one has come at me with a locked and loaded pistol or tried to set fire to my home, but words can cut like a knife and the effect can feel like an attack. Maybe you are where I have been in the last few weeks. If so, let me encourage you to Be still and know He is God for He is faithful and will protect you and guard your heart with His Righteous Right Hand. He has allowed whatever you are (I am) dealing with to purge something only He sees in you (me), or He is using you (me) to refine another. Be like the three emoji monkeys: see no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil. Your Heavenly Father has you and your situation well in hand. (Psalm 46:10, Lamentations 2:17, Proverbs 2:8, II Chronicles 16:9. Isaiah 41:10)

About Yvonne Jones

I am at heart, a LIFEguard: "big" sister, mama, grandmother, aunt, friend, swimming coach, lifeguard trainer, and registered nurse. I am in the business of alleviating fear through education and lots of hand holding. As a swimming instructor, I have taught people of all ages to overcome fear of the water and I marvel as fear gives way to fearlessness, as panic turns to pure joy, as tears dissolve into giggles of glee, and pennies retrieved from the bottom of the abyss become trophies. As a nurse, I have been privileged to walk up to Heaven's gate as patients and family are welcomed home, witnessed the miracle of birth, helped mend broken hearts, and cared for the elderly as they wait. Scriptures number one admonition is "fear not." Question is HOW??? The Word becomes our swimming instructor and can help us learn to "tread water til Jesus comes." Something my students often thought I was going to make them do! So welcome to my pool! Jump in the cool water. Let it refresh your soul and feel the unseen hands of the Master Lifeguard lift you up and out of the deep water. Who knows, you just might even walk on water!

We would love to hear from you
