Running Hard and Fast from God’s Plan
When I was in nursing school decades ago, I met a very special group of people. One of those individuals would witness to an empty chair! I am not exaggerating! He and I had a couple of conversations about why he was in nursing school instead of seminary. My questions were not appreciated at the time. Years later, I heard his testimony and he admitted he was running hard and fast from the Lord’s plan for his life. Today he is a pastor; a friend who welcomed me to my new community, and a trusted Biblical scholar. I ask him questions all the time.
“The Morning Word”
He is funny, articulate, passionate, ultra-conservative, a patriot who served his country as a Marine and his community as a police officer, paramedic, and nurse, and he is direct! One day I was listening to his morning devotional called the Morning Word. (He is on Facebook. Look him up.) This was his quote: Don’t find yourself on…. “A street called ‘Later,’ ends in a city called, ‘Never,’ in the land of ‘OH NO!’” (FB, The Morning Word, 5/14/21)
This is the kind of thing he says all the time. Simple, humorous, and if you stop and think about it, VERY PROFOUND!
Time is Now
He was talking about regret, procrastination, and the notion you have time! We only get one life here on earth and the choices we make here determine our eternal destiny. Do we choose the Lord Jesus and His Word and His example or do we choose ourselves and what we think, what we want, what we need, pursuing the things of this world (which is just what the enemy wants you to do)?

Time to give an account
God’s Word says we will give an account for every word that comes out of our mouth because what comes out of our mouth reveals what is in our hearts. I don’t know about you but this puts me in a very uncomfortable place. Think about it: you are ALONE standing before God Almighty trying to explain every word you ever said. Ugh!!!! Every thought of your heart! Lord, have mercy!
Now Today
The Time Is Now! Tomorrow is not guaranteed. I must testify now with my words, deeds, thoughts, affections, and in my relationships. I do not want to “live in the city called Never, in the land of Oh No!”
