As I wandered through Philippians today, the following verse repeats thoughts and readings of the Philippians.
Philippians 1:12-13
New International Version
12 Now I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that what has happened to me has actually served to advance the gospel. 13 As a result, it has become clear throughout the whole palace guard and to everyone else that I am in chains for Christ.
What happens to me serves to advance the gospel
Russell Estes told recently of at the end of 2021, giving everything to the Lord, to do what God would have of it, only to within weeks be diagnosed with cancer and the absolute goodness of God giving him a story that is changing lives.
Joni Erickerson tells of the presence and the goodness that is God in writings published of her life story of paralysis. Her testimony of continuing to praise God.
Are we looking at sickness and tragedy through the wrong lens?
We all watched in horror as Damar Hamlin’s heart stopped on the football field. Then the world prayed. His Charity is more than fully funded.
The announcer prayed on ESPN. Players and news people profess their faith and others profess their longing to have the peace of those who prayed.
And then, by God’s mighty power, love and grace: Damar spoke.
Lives were changed in a moment of tragedy and horror.
Journey is the testimony
I have believed for a long time that heartache, suffering, and hard times have almost nothing to do with the individual. The real story is what they tell about Christ to those they meet on the journey. The truth of who God really is- is only seen by walking these journeys. The lives that are changed by a moment of conversation, a glimpse of the strength of Christ in your struggle. His kindness, grace, and mercy in adversity.
Do we know we will all experience heartaches, suffering, sickness, and pain?
But what will our stories tell others?
Will it be angry and more disappointing or will it be a story of faith for the glory of God?
Lord,
Thank you for letting us see you in Russell, Joni, Damar, and our life struggles.
Thank you that you have good plans for your glory; no matter what our circumstances.
Please help us accept the good, even when we cannot see it.
Work in us, so you can do abundantly more for your glory. Let someone see you, in us.
Search us, change us, convict us and please forgive us In Jesus Christ’s powerful name.
