I did not get the memo. You know, the memo informing me life was not going to be what I expected. The one telling me this stage in life (over the hill) would not be coasting to the finish but an all out battle for family and maintaining a degree of sanity; the explanation I would be busier than ever and not have time to sit and rock on the porch even for an hour with a glass of sweet tea.
Did you get it? Please tell me mine was lost in the intra-office mailer. I thought by now I would have reached the point of not being worried about _________(you fill in the blank)! I think I have only mastered the one thing the Lord repeatedly tells me NOT to do: Worry. Fear.
The Psalms (songs) of ascent are worship songs. Heart cries to the Creator. Songs of worship only come after victory and gaining the LORD’s perspective. I need the Lord’s perspective.
Psalm 126:5-6 is a comfort. Read these words slowly. Carefully. Take in all they assure us of:
They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.
6 He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.
I have sown some tears. Tears are the seeds of my desires for those I love, my country, my church, my world. Seeds must be planted, and then we wait. The harvest is always much later, and much greater than the seeds sown. My prayers are precious to my heavenly Father.
Are you weeping as you pray? This psalm promises we will come again on our knees with praises of pure thanksgiving for the harvest of souls, revival, protection, and salvation. Our tears represent our sincerity, love, and devotion. The harvest is pure joy. So much so we will feel as if we are in a dream! (Psalm 126:1-3) Our mouths will be filled with songs and our weeping turned to laughter. (Psalm 30:5) We will be “walking on sonshine,” to borrow a lyric from Katrina and The Waves.
This psalm reminds the worried worshipper of the Father’s faithfulness to bring the harvest. “We reap what we sow, later than we sow, more than we sow,” to quote the “Preacher”. (Galatians 6:7-9)
Psalm 56:8 is one of my favorites. Tears are seeds! Not one is lost! They are retrieved by God’s mighty hand. It is His hand that plants, waters, grows, and harvests for me! What a promise to cling too.
