Have we forgotten what made our country great?
I am thankful that God allows me to live in a country that was founded on Godly principles.
Thanksgiving!! It seems sometimes we have lost the true meaning of Thanksgiving! The first Thanksgiving in our country was a time of sharing blessings. A time of gratefulness for community and friends. I love this season of the year.
This quote from J.F. Kennedy is one that gives us something to think about. We have become a society that feels entitled to a life of luxury, ease and everything we want. We cannot forget those who made this country great. We should be grateful for those who fought to give us the freedom we now enjoy. Yesterday, we honored our veterans. I hope you were able to let a veteran know you appreciated his sacrifice. Should we not walk in gratitude for the freedoms we have today? Even more we ought to show our appreciation to God by living a life that gives thanks to the one who promised to be our defender and shield. I am thankful for those men and women who gave of themselves to keep this a great country. As thankful as I am for those who placed themselves in harm’s way, I know it is Almighty God who allowed this country to be a great nation founded on our forefathers’ faith and allegiance to God and His Word. They may not have been perfect in their ways but God gave them wisdom in creating documents that have stood for 200 plus years. These documents have provided refuge and protected our freedoms for many years. Today we see our freedoms being taken away. I believe, as do many others, that God’s hand of protection is slowly being removed. During this Thanksgiving season, may we pause to give thanks and pray to the one God who raises kings and appoints authorities over us. May we return to God, the only true God, and praise Him among the nations.
After victory over his enemies and Saul, David writes a song of Thanksgiving in 2 Samuel 22. As a reminder this week, go back and read this chapter from David. “And David spoke the words of this song to the Lord in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul.” 2 Samuel 22:1 (NASB)
In 2 Samuel 22: 50, David writes,
“Therefore I will give thanks to You, O Lord, among the nations,
And I will sing praises to Your name.
He is a tower of deliverance to His king,
And shows lovingkindness to His anointed,
To David and his descendants forever.” 2 Samuel 22:50-51 (NASB)
Father, I believe you are calling us back to you. Forgive us the sins we have committed against you. Help us to stand up for the principles which are in your word. May we be faithful and give thanks for the many blessings you give us each day. Thank you for allowing the freedom to worship you this country. Father, I lift up those who being persecuted for their faith in you around the world. I ask that you give them strength and courage in their stand.
Remind us Holy Spirit, to continue to pray for those who are struggling in so many different ways. Thank you Jesus for loving us and giving us life eternal.
