Rummaging through my closet, I found my mother’s sewing basket. Inside was a Girl Scout badge which, apparently, had never been sewn on my sash. Girl Scouts was so much fun. I remember one time my troop went to Marengo Lake for the weekend. The first thing our troop leader had us do was bury the words ‘I can’t’. We were forbidden to say I can’t do this or that and if we did, we would have kitchen duty or some undesirable chore.
Stay at Home
There are so many times during this ‘stay at home’ that I want to say, I can’t do this anymore. I miss my children and my grandchildren. I miss my church family and friends. I can’t keep eating like this, yet, I continue. Ha! I can’t take the fear of being sick. I can’t stand the thought of dying alone. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t. What are you tempted to say you can’t do?
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:13 NKJV
God asked Moses to lead His people out of Egypt. Moses basically said, I can’t. He had his excuses, but God used him anyway. In the book of Esther, Mordacai asked Esther to save her people by talking to the king. At first, she said, I can’t, because he might kill me if I don’t find favor in his sight, but she was persuaded to do it for her people. The Bible is filled with lives that their ‘I can’t’ changed to ‘I will’. God gave them the ability to do His will.
What Has GOD placed on Your Heart
What is God asking you to do during this mandate to stay at home? Is there a neighbor or friend you should call? Are you committing yourself to pray for our country leaders and those in need. Has He placed encouraging words for you to place on Facebook? If you are spending time baking, share with someone who is at high risk and can’t get out at all. So many people have been laid off from work. Perhaps God has placed on your heart to help them during this time.
I Can’t Do This Anymore
Two of my grandchildren are living with me during this pandemic. I’m homeschooling and trying to keep them up with their schoolwork. My grandson, 6 year old Remington, misses his mother so much. After a video chat with his mother, he broke down crying. He voiced his fear that he would never see his mother again. My heart broke for him. He was basically saying ‘I can’t do this anymore’.
Be Prepared
The Girl Scout motto is ‘Be Prepared’. It is hard to be prepared for something that was unheard of and never expected. But God has prepared us by reminding us in His word that we can do what we need to do through Christ. We can seek Him each morning and rely on His strength. We can help others. We can get through this. God is working in our land for which I am thankful.
