From the front porch and beyond:
Holding on like Jacob
https://youtu.be/RigDkEUghyQ Jacob’s Song
A few months ago a statement began whispering in my mind: “Hold on like Jacob.” I reread the story of Jacob and it was quite thought-provoking.
A friend was diagnosed with cancer. I text prayers and she answered back “pray for my weariness”; which I immediately did.
I continued to pray as I mowed the yard and the statement whispered “Hold on like Jacob.” I kept mowing and the whisper became more insistent.
I pulled to shade, took out my phone, and text my friend: “Hold on like Jacob.“
“God is Doing Something”
I started back mowing and in a few minutes a text came back.” I was listening to a podcast on Jacob before you text me.”
Chills when up and down at this confirmation that God was doing something important. Her next text was “Holy Spirit at work.”
The next day she received an uplifting report from her doctor, not cured, but a step in the right direction. Genesis 32:24-30 King James Version
24 And Jacob was left alone, and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
Have you ever held on like Jacob?
What do you need to wrestle with the Lord over and hold on to him like Jacob?
Heavenly Father,
Thank you for giving me a hearing heart to move with you. Thank you for letting me be a part of this precious moment given by your grace and mercy. Thank you for lifting the weariness. Father, we can not see your plan, but we trust it. Remind us to hold on like Jacob. Help us to hear and listen to your voice and respond. Remove the barriers that would keep us from you. Do these things according to your perfect will and way in Jesus Christ’s powerful name.
Amen
