Handling disappointments

When you face disappointment

Disappointments! We all experience them at some point in our lives. Things don’t always go our way. Life is full of twists and turns. Our expectations seldom turn out the way we plan.

So, how do we deal with it and not lose heart?

Galatians 6:9-10 tells us, And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Keep our eyes in the right place

First, we have to get our eyes off ourselves. I know it’s easy to say, but very difficult to do when you are hurting. In despair, we convince ourselves we can’t handle another disappointment. What I am trying to remember is people have lives of their own to live. As I get older, I am realizing that my world doesn’t revolve around many people any longer.

So I am challenging myself to fix my eyes on the one to whom my life should revolve around.I will cherish all that the Lord has given in my life. I will try to help someone in need without any expectation of return.

Consider Gratitude

Second,I want to consider all the things for which I am grateful. When life turns to self pity, I dig a hole and stay in it. I want to come out of that hole. I can do that by being grateful. Gratitude for what we have turns to thankfulness. Thankfulness lifts my eyes to see a clearer picture of God’s grace.

Difficult times

We are living in very difficult times. Our family and friends are separated from us. We often have anxiety, fear and confusion over all the world’s chaos.

The Lord God is still in control, even though it looks like we are losing the battle. The battle is the Lord’s! This is what the Lord says to you: ‘Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s. 2 Chronicles 20:15 NKJV

Keep accounts clear

Lastly, we should walk in constant forgiveness. Keeping all accounts clear of any perceived debt. When we have expectations of what another should or should not do, we set ourselves up for bitterness. When bitterness invades the soul, it tears apart most of what is good in us. While the person who has hurt us, might not know what we desired from them. Or maybe they do know and have chosen to go their own way. Regardless, if we do not walk in forgiveness, we lose. Forgiveness is a choice! It is not a feeling. Sometimes the feeling lingers. Stay the course, don’t give in to Satan who wants to keep reminding you of the issue.

God will walk with you. Proverbs 3:32b (The Lord) he is a friend to the upright.

Disappointment will come. Many are the troubles in this life. John 16:33.“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Be sure to encourage someone today. Speak peace and joy wherever you go. Jesus’ return is very soon. Focus on what is good.

Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally  Always Remember

8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
