The heart and wreath have been hanging in my bedroom for years. I painted it long ago and thought it was such a sweet saying. As I made my bed this morning, I stopped and pondered what it said. As we have aged, I’m left wondering what ‘best’ is. Is best the fact that we are high risk (meaning old)? How about cataracts, high cholesterol, arthritis? Loved ones that are sick and diseased? Parents that need us to reverse roles? Are these best as best can be? The plans we made and dreams we dreamed are no longer a reality. Is that best?
The Best Has Passed?
What hope can I offer to people that are seeking their best in life? How do we keep our chin up and a smile on our face when it seems the ‘best’ perhaps has passed?
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.”

Jesus is the Best
WELL, let me tell you about my Jesus! He offers hope for the hopeless. Assurance for those who are needing confidence. He is our Shepherd. Jesus is able to supply all our needs. He loves us more than we can imagine. Green pastures according to Charles Spurgeon are the Scriptures of truth. We can find rest in His promises and the living Word. The still waters are a place where we can refresh and cleanse. The waters are still, which brings peace and serenity. And notice, He leads us there. We cannot go by ourselves. We need His guidance. Jesus each day is the best!
“For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a cry of command, with the voice of an archangel, and with the sound of the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-18 ESV

Each Day Will Be Better
It gets even better. The best is spending eternity with the Lord. Oh, what a day that will be! Speaking of best, each day will be far greater than we can imagine. The best will get bester (I know that is not a word, it just fit). Each day will be better than the day before.
“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9 ESV

The Best is Yet to Be
Each morning is a blessing and we are to seek the best we can be for that day. Keep reading God’s word, keep praying, keep doing good for those around you. Look for the best and be the best. As we grow in faith and assurance of the love of God, we must admit we are at our best for today. Tomorrow …. the best is yet to be!
