What are you famous for?
“Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.” Ephesians 3:20-21 (ESV)
The Not So Great
The people who know me very well, know I am famous for both good and “not so great” things. Some of the “not so great” things people will most certainly never let me forget about is a time when one of my students, Jonathan Knox, caught himself on fire in my 4th Grade Classroom! As a classroom teacher, I have always taken pride in the smell of my classroom. So my daily routine was to walk in the door, turn on my lights, my lamp, and last, light my candle. Johnathan decided he needed some tape off my desk and without permission, reached across my desk for the tape, and managed to catch a string from his sweater on fire! Everyone noticed Johnathan was on fire except Johnathan and ME! My 4th graders were screaming, “Mrs. Browder, Johnathan is on FIRE!” For a split second, I completely froze. Then my brain took over as I began to bear hug him while swatting out the fire. Of course this made the senior bulletin board of student’s favorite memories!
Good Things
After reading that, believe it or not, I am famous for some good things. Everyone loves my layered chocolate cake, pancakes, and my shrimp and grits recipe given to me by a friend. I am always asked to bring my chocolate cake to gatherings. Pancakes are made every weekend for whoever wants one and my shrimp and grits have become a New Year’s Day tradition for us all.
I am also famous for my hugs and my “I love you’s.” . I’m a hugger. Some loved it, some don’t. My family, friends, and students know this about me. People definitely hear “I love you” from me a lot. I remember taking a girl’s trip to the beach one time and going around to the bedrooms whispering my “Good night, I love you,” to all as if everyone of the ladies were my children.
What HE Is Famous For
Thinking of the certain things that make me “famous” makes me think of the countless things God is famous for. Just in my life, God is famous for turning numerous of my messes into his miracles. For me, God is famous for always giving me strength in times where I am weak. I always share this with my family and my students. I tell them God is famous for getting us through the things we think we will never overcome. We make it out better than we were before because of Him. We can allow it to change us and to have a heart of faith instead of fear.
Exactly What He is Famous For
Make a list in your thoughts today of all that God is famous for in your life. I am here to tell you, it will overwhelm you. When you see Him restore a child and answer countless prayers, it replaces fear with faith. Having this faith allows me to trust him in all situations realizing He sees the big picture and the full circle, not me, so don’t worry. HE can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine and that is exactly what the Lord is famous for.
Counting My Blessings,
