Yesterday, I watched the most precious of sights. Two friends sat side by side on the bed, with their feet and legs dangling and an occasional swing of them. One of the girls was eighty-eight and the other was ten.
Could they see the age difference? Not really.
They were looking through “love glasses.”
They laughed and giggled, shared jokes and stories. The older one would reach out and hug the younger one real tight and tell her how much she loved her. Then, a short time later, the younger one would do the same thing. There was a hundred percent love and respect in this relationship between these two friends.
The older friend would be celebrating her 89th birthday in a couple of days, and the younger friend had brought her a musical card, a small stuffed animal, and a bag of goodies. They both loved chocolate and immediately they were immersed in enjoying these treats.
Does not our Heavenly Father look at us through “love glasses?“ He looks beyond our faults, our spots, our blemishes, and our wrinkles, and sees us, as precious in His sight.
“Since, you are precious and honored in My sight, and because I love you” (Isaiah 43:4a)
Our Father pours out His love abundantly upon us, always giving us far more than anyone of us deserves. He continues to publicly demonstrate that we are His and blesses us in all areas of our life.
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called the children of God!“ (1 John 3:1a)
Another guest came to bring a beautiful birthday cake for the older friend’s birthday celebration. She asked her if the younger friend was her granddaughter. Immediately, the younger one threw her arms around her dear friend and said, “I wish I was kin to her!“
I responded with, “You are! You both know Jesus as your Savior, and you are both part of His family.“ They looked at each other with total joy on their faces and loudly stated together “Yes, we are!“ Again, they hugged each other celebrating this new exciting revelation.
The older friend said, “You know they say I will be 89 years old on my birthday.” To which the younger friend looks at her and said, “You know, I think you are really only 60 years old.” They both laughed together, hugging each other really tight. Yes, they definitely were looking through “love glasses“ and loving every minute of it.
And you know what? I was also enjoying every moment. I am so thankful God was allowing me to see this beautiful picture of His love for us expressed by two of His precious children.

P.S. The older friend is Ms. Hettie Lee Wright; and the younger friend is my granddaughter, Gabby. She always writes “Ms. wRight “ on her cards cause she says she is always right!!! Don’t you just love that God allows us to be a part of children’s lives. We must keep watching them, so that we don’t forget how to come to Jesus and the Father as His little children.
