Why You Do That?

WHY YOU DO THAT? by Lorie Walker

Little Mason came in one day at Meme and Pop-pop’s house.  Mason asked “What happen?” while staring, wide eyed and confused, at the hole in the ceiling.  Meme explained that Pop-pop had cut a hole in the ceiling to check for a water leak.  Mason still not understanding just shook his head and asked “Why he do that?”.  Later when Pop-pop came in, Mason asked again” Why you do that?” This went on several times and little Mason still not understanding why Pop-pop had cut a hole in the ceiling.

We are sometimes like little Mason; we ask “Why you do that?” Chances are we don’t understand either why someone does the things they do.  Sometimes we ask God, “Why is this happening? Why did they do that?”  We don’t always understand but this is where forgiveness and faith come in.

When other do things that my hurt us and we ask “Why you do that?” This is when we need to allow forgiveness steps in.

Colossians 3:13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Understanding how others think and why they do the things they do, will always be a mystery to some.  We don’t know the situation they are in or what they have been through.  That is okay, we are commanded to love them anyway.

John 13:34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

When we ask “Why is this happening?” this is when we must depend on faith in the Lord.  We must know that He is in control and knows all.  We may not understand but He does.

Isaiah 55:8-9 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.

I believe things happen for a reason.  We can use all things as a lesson to grow us spiritually closer to the Father and  to help others going through the same situation.

Psalm 27:17 As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

We can let it turn us bitter or better it is our choice.  I had much rather have faith that God has this than to depend on myself and become a bitter person.

Little Mason is still wondering why Pop-Pop cut a hole in the ceiling and Meme is still explaining it to him.  But it has not stopping him from playing, laughing and enjoying watching TV in the room with the hole in the ceiling.  Just as little Mason is still wondering, we still wonder about things too but we must not stop doing the will of God…spreading the gospel, loving and helping others.
