Ephesians 1:17-20 (read as a prayer for self)
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you (me) the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you (I) may know him better. 18 I pray that the eyes of your (my) heart may be enlightened in order that you (I) may know the hope to which he has called you (me), the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, 19 and his incomparably great power for us (me) who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength 20 he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms,
This chapter contains the reason we are studying IN THE NAME OF JESUS: It is to KNOW what the Word of God has to say about the power and authority of the name of Jesus, all that backs up the name, and the reasons we are given and should use HIS NAME.
#1. Jesus obtained His name when Jesus conquered sin and death by His authority. (More on this later!) His name is not some good luck charm and is not to be used lightly. Jesus experienced all we face. (Hebrews 4:15) He defeated principalities (orders of angels), powers, dominions, rulers of darkness and spiritual wickedness (Ephesians 6:12) Heaven, earth and hell understand what Jesus did! We must understand Jesus spiritual death and His payment for our penalty (justice) as our Substitute to comprehend the authority He gives us.
Colossians 1:13 “For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves,”
Therefore, Satan, has no authority!
Example was given using a piece of carpet.
As believers we live on earth (piece of carpet), Satan must accept our decision to follow Christ. When God calls us to “GO” to a new area (off the carpet) we are met with resistance.
Another example was a Whack-a-Mole game.
Every time we as believers attempt to dare to come out of hiding and follow Christ, Satan “whacks” us back down to keep us under his control, to prevent us from following the great commission and using our power of attorney to bring salvation to a dying world.

Prayer and faith do not aid us if we do not control our thought life. In the words of Ann Graham Lotz in her book The Daniel Prayer, we must filter everything through the “lens of love not the lens of our circumstance.” To do this we must know the Word. In knowing the Word we can put God in re-membrance of His Word. We will speak wisely. When we think wrong things, we speak wrong things and speaking the wrong things (negative) brings defeat.
