From Beginning to End

From Beginning to End

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.” Ecclesiastes 3:11 (NIV)

I am reading the devotional, “Everyday Holy,” by Melanie Shankle. A sweet friend, Teila Lee, gave it to me. This author is your everyday, loving, quirky mom. In one of her devotionals, she describes seasons that make us feel overwhelmed. She paints a picture of her walking her dogs in an open field near her home. As her dogs were playing, a single bluebonnet flower caught her eye. There was only one. Then she describes how in a few weeks, the field would be filled with bluebonnets! But at that moment, she was just there to witness that one. (Everyday Holy)

This is exactly how I have felt in Jacob’s recovery. This is absolutely how Jacob has felt. Getting his life back hasn’t happened all at once. It has been one “bluebonnet”

at a time. One word at a time, one step at a time, one jumping jack at a time, one smile at a time, and one so many other things at a time. All of these “one things at a time” start to add up and then we are covered in God’s work.

So in the words of Melanie Swankle, “God is not old” and “his arm is not too short!” (Everyday Holy) I can testify to this statement and I know there are so many others who can too. I see so many “one moments at a time,” and they do make me smile, but the “covering up” is so awesome! I’m so blessed to witness both.
