“What Do You Want to Give Your Children?”

6 “And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. 7 Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NLT)

Who doesn’t love getting a gift? Gift giving can be so special for the giver and the one opening the gift. I have so many memories as a child of getting gifts and I remember how it made me feel so special to receive one.

My bible study class is doing the video study, “Gifts I’d Give My Children” by Todd Wagner. In each video, Todd describes gifts he wants to give his children. Todd tells about many things he gives his children through important conversations. With all Todd says he knows now, he feels like he could “rock it” in school if he could go back. He strives to use all of his wisdom from growing up and wants to pass it on to his children so they can make the best choices in their lives. This is exactly what I strive for. This made me think of how much I wish I knew all that I know now before I started my family. (Gifts I’d Give My Children, Todd Wagner)

Repeat Important Things

Anything I want my sons to remember, I repeat it over and over again to make sure they hear me. I wish I had taught my sons to pray and listen for God to lead them at an early age. Oh how this would have made life much easier for them. I know I did the best I could with the knowledge I had at the time, but oh how I wish I had a do over! This would be something I would have repeated over and over again. I would be a much better mom now with all I have learned through life.

What do you want to give your children? No matter their age, you can still pass it on. Teaching them to pray and listen will change the way they live their life and the impact they make on others. I may not have “rocked it” as a mom with giving gifts to my sons at an early age, but I know I can “rock it” now and I can definitely “rock it” as a grandmother.

“My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you.  For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.” Proverbs 3:11-12 (NLT)
