Keep the Door Locked

Matt Maher  Lord I Need You  https://youtu.be/LuvfMDhTyMA

Six years ago my husband and I moved into our new home. New area, new surroundings. Not knowing the area, the doors were always locked. With no neighbors, I was trying to protect my family. It was necessary to keep the doors locked for peace of mind. All-day, every day. If danger came, locked doors would not necessarily prevent, but definitely would deter. It was an effort to keep out unwanted guests.

 Unlocked Door

As time has passed, the doors are no longer locked during the day very often. The idea that all is well has crept into the mindset. The guard that once was up is now down allowing potential intruders to enter. What was once a deterrent from danger is not there.

Door to our Mind

The thought occurred to me that our minds are like the door. As long as we keep the door locked and shut from unwanted thoughts, our lives would be protected and safe. Our thoughts should be about the word of God, praising Him, and praying without ceasing.

Shut the Door

The other day I was watering my flowers and garden. I left my mental door unlocked and wide open. All of a sudden I realized my thoughts were thoughts from the enemy. I was allowing other people to live in my head and cause stress. The intruder came in and sat down for a long visit. I allowed it. I entertained. Then it dawned on me what was happening. I fell on my knees and prayed. God and I ushered the unwanted guest out of my mind, shut the door, and locked it.

Meditate On These

“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.” Philippians 4:8 NKJV

Keep the Door Locked

The Bible instructs us to think of things good, pure, things that are true. God’s desire for us is that we think of things that result in right living and in God’s peace. That is so difficult. To always keep the door of the mind locked to avoid bad, impure, and false thoughts is a full-time job. I can’t do it alone.

Be Transformed

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Romans 12:2 NKJV

Impossible Alone

The Bible also tells us to renew our minds. Impossible! I can’t accomplish that on my own either. So what are we to do? How can we get to the place where the door is closed and locked all the time? How do I find the peace that God offers?   “you can do nothing without Me.” ‭‭John‬ ‭15:5‬ ‭CSB‬‬

We Need God

These words jumped out at me. We can absolutely do nothing without God. Ask Him to guide us in renewing our minds. We must seek Him and His word not just on Sunday, but every day. How important is peace to you? Meditate on the words of God all day. Lock the door of the world to your mind. It isn’t automatic, it takes making God and His word a priority in your life. Spend time with Him.
