I DID IT! I DID IT!
I finished reading the Bible from cover to cover. On January 1, 2019 I began following a guide with a devotional. It took me 2 years and 48 days. Not only did I read the Bible, but I studied the devotional part, crossed references and tried to absorb as much as I could. You may think it took me a long time. People read through the Bible in one year. Time was not my goal. My goal was to learn and find a closeness to God and my Savior, Jesus Christ. Normally for me something so long would get me frustrated and I would quit, but, truthfully, I enjoyed every minute. I woke up each morning anticipating reading the Living Word.
Jesus, the Word
The creation in Genesis 1 &2 begins the Bible about Jesus. John 1:1,3 tells us that Jesus was the Word and all things were created through Him.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.”
He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”
Revelation 22:13, 20 NKJV

Share the Gospel
The Bible ends with our Lord Jesus Christ! How often in recent months have we prayed “Come, Lord Jesus, Come!” He patiently waits until everyone has an opportunity to know Him. We must be diligent about sharing the gospel and Christ’s love with others.
“In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
Revelation 22:2 NKJV

Tree of Life
The Bible begins and ends with the “tree of life”. In heaven, there will be trees bearing fruits. Psalm 1 compares people to a tree planted beside streams of water. When we find delight in the Lord and meditate on His word day and night, we will not wither, but find our strength in Him. The word for tree (xylos) is sometimes used to describe the cross.
“He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”
Revelation 22:20-21 NKJV

Come, Lord Jesus
Come! The Bible is one long invitation to come to Jesus. You don’t want to miss the wonders of the Holy City. Most importantly, you don’t want to miss eternity with Jesus Christ!
I accomplished my mission and I am so thankful I did. It has been a blessing beyond measure. I think I may start over.
