“So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20 NKJV
Pray to Move That Mountain
Have you ever prayed so hard for something, convincing yourself that your faith is strong enough to ‘move that mountain’? The desire and deception of the heart is so strong that we can convince ourselves that God will answer the way we choose. After all, God said faith can move that mountain. We focus on that mountain. There is no way we would be able to go over, around or under that mountain. It is ugly, huge and hasn’t moved at all. Falling to our knees, we begin praying, crying and telling God all about that mountain in our lives.
Our Focus
The biggest problem is not the mountain, but our focus. We spend so much time considering and worrying over the mountain, that we neglect God. Sure, we are praying to God and begging oftentimes. We should be giving thanks, praising and adoring Him. Once our eyes are focused on God, that mountain begins to fade. It may never go away, but it is not looming so large. God will get bigger, the mountain will be smaller.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust God
This verse is one of the verses that I must recite often. It sometimes makes me cringe to recite because trusting God means I must let go and allow Him to work on my mountain. I must stand on His promises and have confidence He will work things out for the good of those who love Him.
2020 Comes to a Close
As 2020 comes to a close, the ‘mountains’ in our lives have been many. The disease has taken its toll on family and friends. The isolation of family and friends has been difficult. The personal, private concerns that have seemed to hit from every side have been so hard.
God Has Provided
Reflecting on the year, what stands out to me is how my God has provided the strength and comfort I have needed to endure. My prayer life has increased. My love for family and friends has grown as I miss them so much. Their importance in my life has never been more evident. My eyes are more focused on God than ever before. We have nothing without Him.
Do You See Him?
It is time for us to keep our eyes on Jesus. He has been with us every step of this year’s journey. Reflect on Him as you think on the events in your life this year.
