Song of Deliverance

You have delivered us from the evil one.

Thank you, God, for delivering us.

Song of Deliverance  Psalm 18

For the director of music. Of David the servant of the Lord. He sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. He said:

1 I love you, Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock,  my fortress, and my deliverer;
my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Thanksgiving

In the month of November, we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is a time to remember how thankful we should be for all that God has done for us.

The above verses are written by David as a song of deliverance He sings praise to God for delivering him from his enemies.

God’s Faithfulness

I asked a friend a few days ago what verse reminds her of God’s faithfulness and encourages her praise, thanksgiving, and gratitude to the Lord. She has gone through many health issues and yet she has come out on the other side. This is the verse she gave to me. She has clung to this verse on the hardest of days. She is a witness to many.  Her husband has health issues also but still, she holds to this truth.  What truths we see lived out in those who trust in the Lord!

The Lord is Our Rock

It is a great verse to help us through the most difficult of days.  Beginning with I love you, Lord, we confess our commitment and trust in His strength and His sovereignty over our lives.  He is our strength!  He is our Rock.  We know that He is a refuge in a storm. What a wonderful thought that we are hidden from the enemies under His wings.  How thankful we are for the first point of the verse. I love you, Lord.  You are my rock, my fortress and my deliverer.

The Lord is our Refuge

How we praise God for a refuge and a place of protection.
Following that we find, He is our shield and the horn of our salvation.

In Genesis, God told Abram that He would be his shield and exceedingly great reward.  We also are protected by His shield when we are His children.

Protection and strength

In our western thinking, most of us do not understand the “horn” of our salvation.  The horn was a symbol of protection and strength, power and authority.  The animal protected itself by the horn from an enemy when approached. The horn of a ram also would be filled with anointing oil for healing.

Forgiveness

The priest would sprinkle the blood of the sacrificed animal on the “horns of the altar”.  In doing so the process of forgiveness was carried out.  We likewise have had the blood of the lamb sprinkled on the “horn of our salvation” which is our Lord Jesus’ death.

Zechariah’s prayer

Luke 1:67 His father Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit and prophesied:
68 “Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, because he has come to his people and redeemed them.  69 He has raised up a horn of salvation for us  in the house of his servant David  70 (as he said through his holy prophets of long ago),

In Zechariah’s prayer, we read that Jesus has come to his people and redeemed them. His salvation and forgiveness are reminders of the price he paid for our sins.

Comfort and Peace

This verse comforts us as it brings us to a place of thankfulness and gratitude.

This month as we think of all the many things we have to be thankful for, tell the Lord how you love Him and are grateful.  Praise Him with thanksgiving, and lift up a song of praise to Jesus, the horn of our salvation.

Our Prayer

Father

How thankful we are that you are our refuge, our hiding place. All praise to you that you shield us and hide us beneath your wings.  You are the only one who provides strength to us.  We trust in your provision.  Thank you for your Word. It is our source to know you better. Your Holy Spirit helps us to understand you through your Word.  Thank you that we have a comforter, a counselor, and a teacher through the Holy Spirit.  You did not leave us without a  helper and guide.

When we ponder on these things, our love deepens for you.  You are our God and we will praise you all of our days
