Someone I love dearly shared an acronym with me that hit all the participants in the conversation right between the eyes. She had learned this acronym years ago but boy is it appropriate for today. The “sisters” in the discussion are all in a difficult place in life and struggling with decisions and circumstances totally beyond our control. Yes, prying open our controlling fingers from around our situations is not easy for control feels safer than “flying by the seat of your britches.” Plans, certainty, and having knowledge gives life a sense of security. The problem is we really do not know what lies ahead. Without plans, certainty, and knowledge, fear washes over us like a tidal wave. But look at what fear really means!!!!
F-false
E-evidence
A-appearing
R-real
The enemy of our soul is sooooo good at this tactic! It is a lie! It is bondage. It is a prison. It is a straight-jacket. It sucks the life out of everything it touches.
We do not have to believe the lies. We can be brave by doing the thing that at the moment scares us to death and takes us so far out of our comfort zone that all we can do is depend on God. If we can remember we are never out of his sight and he is in control maybe, just maybe we could learn to enjoy the journey. Of course, some “sister” cheerleaders are alway welcomed and certainly needed!
Look at your situation. Are you fearful? Most of what we fear never happens. Examine your situation to determine what is real and what is false.
My mother had a book on her bookshelf titled, Let Go and Let God, that came from my grandmother’s house and if my memory serves me correctly the theme of the book was about releasing control (fear) and trusting God for protection, comfort, wisdom, direction. This is how to have the abundant life.
To the “sisters” who shared this conversation with me today and the “sisters” who have shared this virtual conversation in the past weeks–thank you! I have your backs and I know you have mine! Do you see heaven smiling? I sure do! The enemy is slowly but surely being disarmed as we see fear for what it really is: false evidence appearing real! Don’t lose that one! It is a keeper!
Happy Labor Day weekend!
