Isaiah 59 God’s full Armor
I remember as a young girl being told to put on the full armor of God. Sunday School teachers would remind us “don’t forget to put on your armor” Ephesians 6:10 “Finally brethren, be strong in the Lord and the power of His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.”
While reading in Isaiah last week, it reminded me that it is not my armor; it is God’s armor! He saw Israel disobedience and was astonished that no man to intercede. Isaiah 59:15 “Then His own arm brought salvation to Him, And His righteousness upheld Him.He put on righteousness like a breastplate, And a helmet of salvation on His head; And He put on garments of vengeance for clothing And wrapped Himself with zeal as a mantle.”
The armor is a gift
Friends, the armor is God’s. It is the free gift in salvation. God himself “saw” there was no justice in the land of Israel. He was “astonished to see no one interceding. So He brought salvation to Himself, in the form of His son, Jesus.
Jesus came in human form to intercede for mankind. He brought the full armor: the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation. Our Redeemer put on garments of vengeance for clothing and wrapped Himself with zeal.
His people continued to commit sin. God was displeased at their sins and disobedience. Isaiah 59 lists 26 acts of disobedience. The list is a picture of our world today.
Truth is far from them
Isaiah 59:14-15 Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands far away; For truth has stumbled in the street, And uprightness cannot enter.
“Yes, truth is lacking; And he who turns aside from evil makes himself a prey. Now the LORD saw, And it was displeasing in His sight that there was no justice. And He saw that there was no man, And was astonished that there was no one to intercede;
Truth has stumbled in the street! And Honesty (uprightness) cannot enter. We have “fake news.” The media news “spins” the stories to meet their political views. At times, we are not even honest with ourselves! So, we rationalize, conform so as not to offend and we walk away instead of “speaking the truth in love.”
I am guilty of doing the same so I am certainly not judging. I do not like confrontation. My mind seems to go blank. Later, I can think of a thousand replies but none come to me when I need them.
We need God’s belt of truth
We need God’s belt of truth. We must have His Word written on our hearts, then the Holy Spirit of God can give us answers. In addition, we must “rightly handling the word of truth” 2 Timothy 2:15
1 Peter 3:15 “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if someone asks about your hope as a believer, always be ready to explain it.”
“Truth has fallen in the streets” I pray we can all seek the Lord to raise the standard of “Truth” in our land. God’s Word provides that truth as a weapon for us to fight the good fight. (1 Timothy 6:12,NLT)
Remember You Are Dressed for Battle
When you put on the full armor of God, you are dressed for battle . Yes, it is for protection. It is for protection in battle. We are at war with the enemy.
