I love early mornings! I love that we have a fresh new day. I have another day to try to be what the Creator of the universe planned for me from the foundation of the world. Ephesians 2:10 “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
We have a friend who lost his wife earlier this year. They were both early risers too. They would sit and drink their morning coffee and tease one another and laugh about the stupid things that they do each day. Or I imagine some days they would sit quietly as they reflect on a brand new day. In our later years, it doesn’t seem as important that you didn’t turn the TV off before going to bed, again. And whether or not you remember to do what you said you would yesterday just isn’t worth the energy you waste arguing. Both of them are Christians and I watched them as each and every day they were busy doing kind and good to others. Somedays it might be food taken to a shut in. Someday he would work tirelessly on a project that would encourage and bring peace and joy to others. They were great examples of Christ in their marriage. They believed by faith that Jesus sacrificed his life that they could have eternal life but many people stop there. Some are satisfied that now they belong to Jesus and will one day go to heaven. They are “be”livers. Just being and not “doing” is good enough for them. Isn’t that what is preached? While were are not saved by our good works, our good works and “doing” is the example Jesus gave to us. James, the half brother of Jesus tells us,”faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
On the other end of this discussion is the people who think that their works will get them into heaven. The “good ole boy” is busy doing and doing but thinks his “good works” will get him into heaven. It isn’t either/or; it is both/and. My friends understood that. Their faith was shown to all that knew them by their love and their good works.
I miss my friend. She was such a blessing to us all. If you think about Mr. “friend,” say a prayer for the days have been hard. He is doing well considering his loss. And he is still about his Father’s business of loving, helping and encouraging others.
I write all of this today, because when I awaken today, Mr. Friend’s favorite song was on my mind. He has a plaque that reminds him, “In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.” That’s where our faith comes from, Jesus! That’s where our strength, peace and comfort in times of trouble comes from, Jesus! I am so thankful for their example in my life.
So in the morning when you rise, remember another day has been given to you. Another “do over”, another opportunity to love, encourage and show that your faith in the one who gave His life.
