Hammock Reading Beside the Water

One of my best resources I have been using now for many years.  This was a gift from a dear friend who walked with me during the year of my husband’s illness and the years following his death.

31-days-of-prayer

There are days prayer is difficult.  The words will not come and needs are great.  The daily prayer guide I have found invaluable in directing my prayers for the many concerns of my heart is 31 Days of Prayer by Ruth Warren Myers.  This book monthly reminds me day by day to pray for my church, my country, our leaders, our pastors, our servicemen and women at home and abroad, my job and co-workers, missionaries at home and abroad, various ministries near and dear to my heart, and of course, friends, family, the sick, the bereaved, and the poor.  Focused prayer with a purpose.

The assurance we have when our own words are inadequate is that the Spirit makes intercession for us with groanings that cannot be uttered (Romans 8:26).

There are many daily devotionals that line the shelves of bookstores, beckon from cyberspace, and can be found in many a yard sale for pennies.  Oswald Chambers wrote a devotional out of his own time with the Lord and from his sermons.  He wrote during an era of no “political correctness” and he speaks with authority, candor, and a profound knowledge of Scripture.

My Utmost for His Highest was first copyrighted in 1935.   This devotional will leave you with tidbits that you will “chew” on all day and some will leave you changed forever to the glory of God.81tTLeDDD6L._SL1500_
If you prefer, a free daily version is available at www.utmost.org.  My copy is highlighted, notations made in margins, and dog-eared and sticky tabbed for quick access.
